Had an eye appt. today(turned out fine) with a new dr. since moving to the northern wasteland. I had all the new patient papers ready and was beckoned over to one of the windows for my initial check in. There were two lines and the Karen was in the line next to me and carrying on by bellowing how "slow these people are."  When I was called over before her she had a fit, saying she had been in line a lot longer and besides the older folks should be able to go first. I paid no attention and continued with the picture taking, signing papers, etc., then went to sit down to wait...I was about 20 minutes early. The same middle-aged lady that checked me in then started to take care of the entitled Karen...who was still making like a bull moose in heat. She commented about how older folk should have precedence, to which the gal behind the desk commented..."Mrs. XX, that gentleman is 6 yrs. older than you." Then Karen said "well, he should have at least let a lady go first" to which the gal at the desk gave her the perfect stinger: "maybe if you had acted like one, he would have." The entire waiting room broke out laughing, so Karen just grabbed her stuff and sat down in a far corner.  Grin

I was in MOHS (skin cancer) surgery waiting room with 15 other people with a bleeding bandage stuck on them (like me).  Half were reading something.

The intercom music was loud and very irritating in our small room. (Rap with a room full of old people)

An employee came in to ask for someone to return to the cutting room.

I stood up and asked (politely)... Who else in here would like the terrible loud music to be turned off? And raised my hand.

About 2/3 of the people raised their hands, and the others looked afraid to give an opinion.

The employee gave me a dirty look and said she would see what she could do.

They turned it down, but not off.

Now it looks like some of the stuff they cut off me is coming back next to the old incision.

Complain at the Dr's office at your own risk.

The woman didn't shutup until the check in gal made the comment about being a lady. It made my long wait easier to accept, got there 20 min. early and didn't get called in until 25 min. past. About average I guess.  Wink

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_(slang)

In African-American culture, there is a long history of calling a meddlesome white woman by a certain name. In the antebellum era (1815–1861), she was referred to as "Miss Ann".[6] In the early 1990s, "Becky" was used.[7] As late as 2018, before the use of "Karen" caught on, alliterative names matching particular incidents were used, such as "Barbecue Becky", "Cornerstore Caroline", and "Permit Patty".

And hookers are often referred to as "Pavement Pattys" or "Ladies of Negotiable Virtue."  Problem with that last one is I seem to remember in years past where that may well have applied to a certain pasttime of married couples. Often it depended on whether the wife wanted something of value and the price was...well, you get it...or didn't.  Wink

I'm sure you guys will love this but I said.

I was in Lowe's simply needed a window shade cut to length for my daughter's room. Old one had an accident.

Older couple there to pick out some blinds or whatever. Lady who worked there had seen me before and as I walked up she told the older couple she would be right with them. Asked me what I wanted, she cut a shade and I was out of there in like 2 minutes flat.

Older couple had a shocked look on their faces. I looked at them and said, "I'm not retired, I have to get stuff and go. I got other things to do."

Where I live that is fairly common. We get these retires from up North who think they are the main priority. They aren't to the locals. Not to be mean but they have nothing to do any day of the week so they are slow as Sh## to do anything. They need to get out of the way for the people who have jobs and kids. I just don't have the time to sit around waiting.

Who hasn't been in line or waiting for something, and had some person (always a woman) ahead of you at checkout who is clearly enjoying taking up time and attention, fishing through the purse, trying different EBT/debit cards, looking for coupons or exact change, arguing about the price, asking questions, screwing around, yada, knowing there are people lined up waiting to be served or check out?  The line getting longer.  And you get the very distinct feeling they are good at it and practice it as a hobby.

And the clerk, clearly not happy with her, just as willing to drag her feet and take all the time in the world to irritate her back.

I've left a full cart of food and frozen (that took me 40 minutes to collect) and said screw this... and walked out.

My other pet peeve; two or more dickweeds that stand and block doorways, entrances, isles and other narrow passageways to have discussions, just obstructing everyone's path, on purpose.  You'd love to just walk right into them and knock them down, but don't.

And we used to have some friends (a couple) and his wife loves to go out to eat, and then makes it her mission in life to give the waitress a hard time (doesn't know the menu, doesn't refill coffee or water, a cup is dirty, service is slow, and sending food back).  She says she waitressed all through college and knows and expects good service.  But bad enough you just know the help has spit in your food or wiped their ass on your toast.  After 4 times, I just told her husband (a very good guy and friend).... look, we like you guys a lot, but we will never go out to a restaurant with you again, and you know why.  And he nods knowingly, and sadly.

My most common irritant is while at a convenience store, I seem to always get in line behind the person who wants to buy "scratch off lottery tickets" and then stands at the window scratching them hoping for a winning ticket while everyone else stands there waiting.   Usually I stand there patiently waiting but there have been times I stepped up to the window and asked the clerk to let me pay while the other person checks their ticket(s).   I usually get a strange look from the ticket buyer, one could call it a look of discontent.   Don't care.    We all have our limits.

Jess - I don't wait on the Kens talking in the doorway - I say excuse me and move on by. And yes - I like self checkout most of the time, but when I have a large order - I go to the checkout lines with cashiers. Pay at the pump is a good thing too (and I go often enough as it is).

My dad had NO NONE AT ALL patience for people in his way at a store.  If at a grocery store growing up,  I was embarrassed when he pushed another person's cart 20 feet down the aisle when anyone put a shopping cart in the middle of the aisle while that person got an item VERY slowly off a shelf or just looking for an item.   He would not say a word like EXCUSE ME or anything, he would just slam into the other person's car and send it on it's way.

I just push the cart a few feet if in the way to get by,  and if other person not paying attention not 20 feet down the aisle like Dad did.

I find confronting people like the Karen's of the world only create more drama with them and more trouble.  As long as they are not whining to me,  I do not care much.

She was named when 'Karen' was a good and honorable name back in the mid 70's...

She at least rolls with it now and mostly just has fun with being a literal Karen...

I AM Retired BUT ya dasn't wanna cut in front of me. wally wurld aldi both had gabbers blockin the danged aisle! Very Politely But VERY LOUDLY EXCUSE ME. Git "looks" BUT they do Move outa the way. While back I was on the side of the aisle reaching for something and as I looked up I braced and a gal comin the other way with the cell phone ear ran square into my cart. And as she looked up I said if you can't walk and chew gum WHY are you using a cell phone and runnin into things? As she said what? I'd already turned around and walked away. And those cell phone ears have walked into me swerved on the highways walked into other folks or fixed objects. I've had cashiers smile and thank me cuz by the time I'm ready to pay out I have the cash or credit card out and most times with cash I have a handful of change IF needed. And I Know a lot of us "older folks" have given young cashiers too much money according to them and say just ring it up! Or hand the a 10 20 or 50 dollar bill and tell them our change before they look at the computer! The LOOKS I've gotten from That Are Priceless!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

Before Serk, WAY back in my youth my online handle was "Richard Cranium".

It was amusing how many people didn't figure out it was a handle and not a real name.

Has anyone seen Mike Hunt?

In a previous life I worked the video rental counter at Kroger (Grocery store). They hired a cute young hispanic girl, and I was training her.
We answered the phone for the store, and made such pages.

And yup, someone called and pulled that one on her, I was away stocking an aisle when I heard this very cute feminine voice calling out for Mike Hunt, could Mike Hunt please come to the camera bar, thank you.

It took a long time for me to diplomatically explain to her what she said, and why someone would do that.

I never worked a video counter, but in a previous life, I did a little collection and contract work for a small mom and pop video store when those were just coming into existence.  I got paid peanuts, but all the videos I wanted for free made my poor existence more bearable.  Mom was an amazingly hot red head, and she kept giving me porn to take home.  There's more to this story, but I'm not telling.

Jess, that sounds like one part time job I had as a kid in HS. Obviously no videos available back then, it was more of a delivery service for the small enterprise run by the wife, the hubby was gone a good amount as an over-the-road trucker. The "tips" were appreciated!

Good on the lady to be able to multitask with her customers but bad on you for being disrespectful to older couple. Remember these "retiree's" from the north add to your local economy. Yes we put up with people from Chicago in our local economy and on I 65 as they pass thru a 10 mi. stretch in our area. Don't worry your time is a coming for you to use your profound wisdom. You're going to need it.  Wink
