Very cool! Were they wheeled out from the museum or were they ridden there?
Double cool points to the bikes and their owners if they were ridden there!

WheelsThrough Time has a raffle for a restored bike each year to support the museum. This year the bike is a 48 Pan Head. The drawing is sometime today in front of an audience. 2nd prize is $10,000, 3rd is $5000. I enter each year, but so far I have not won! They sell a LOT of tickets.

I have a good friend that buys and resurrects Indian motorcycles (pre WWII). He has about a dozen machines now, it is an amazing collection! Only one has pretty and shined paint, the rest are original sweaty machines. We share stories of each other’s machine troubles, and yes . . . most troubles involve carburetors. I rode with a small group of guys in CA, and one had this ancient Panhead Hog that just looked wonderful. Every time we went out with him, he broke down on the SoCA freeways, and we stood around in 100 degree sun for a couple hours while it got repaired. After 3 times, I always asked if he was going on the next ride, and if he was, I didn't go.  It was nice to look at, but not in 8 lane traffic.

A former coworker years ago had a blue Panhead as pictured but it had a set of matching blue leather factory saddlebags. Panheads are my favorite HD. About every motorcycle memory of old was the Panheads and the 650 Bonneville.

Most of us that have vintage machines know that the use is limited. Especially if you are just a rider, and not a mechanic at heart. Really, it is easy to buy a good running vintage machine . . . but to keep it running that way takes a lot of money or a passionate owner/mechanic.

I picked this one up a week ago, it has not run in 10-20 years. A pretty complete machine but there are always surprises in resurrections. I’ll tinker on it this winter and probably sell it at some point; there is not a lot of money on either end with these small cc machines but just a hobby. 1972 Honda 175
