What is that windshield called that's about the size of a flyscreen but slopes back over the instrument pods?

The generic term is "fly screen". If they're not available from Honda, someone will probably know of an alternate.

Are you talking about a cafe fairing maybe? They are low, and definitely slope back towards the instruments.

I do not get the purpose of fly screens.

They look like the same protection as putting a baseball cap on your headlight (bill forward).

You can kill a lot more flies with a real windshield.

This Memphis shades Big Shot is the smallest shield I ever ran (though I've been running fairings for 30 years).  They make progressively smaller ones that look about the same.

Big Shot.

On a note, I used handlebar mounted Slipstreamer 15" 06 Spitfire and the 17" larger overall Hellfire on the 1100 Spirit with great success. When I mounted the Hellfire on the Valk as 17" was the proper height on both bikes, the Hellfire couldn't withstand the sudden wind pressure that Valk can produce @ over 90 mph. speeds that occur when doing a quick pass on two lane roads. Had to reposition/tighten eventually 3x in 2 mos. Had to go to a fork mount shield. The Spitfire, 2x in 5 yrs. of service but the Spirit was bit of a dawg in comparison and it wasn't as massive either. I like shields but finding one that perfectly does its job w/o some buffeting, goodluck on your quest. Adding lowers on mine worked really well but in warmer months engine heat becomes a factor thus I use them very early spring and late fall or or not at all nowadays due less willing to ride in cooler temps.

I have to use a handlebar mounted windshield on my 1800 Valkyrie, which has 1500
Valkyrie bars on it, and I used two sets of Memphis Shades (?) mounting hardware...

And the shield you have mounted is a lot lower than the 17" Hellfire. A matter of the height/top of the shield to the clamp position/pivot point and not mention the angle placement of said shield/windscreen. Good on you that works for you. "To everything there exceptions."  cooldude
