Christmas Gift for a Survivalist Friend
«

My siste is staying with us a few days and today she asked me about suggested gifts for a friend of hers she said was a "survivalist".
He does not own a car, carries a backpack with him whereever he goes and works in construction. Apparently either his mother or a friend drives him back and forth to work.
She asked about a shovel (you know like the military used or uses). I suggested maybe a roll up solar panel. He apparently carries a "battery" with him at all times for keeping stuff charged (I did not ask what he charges).
I also suggested my something like gold or silver (just in case).
Any other "reasonable" suggestions. Thinking of something that would fit or go with the backpack he carries. So size would be an issue.

Basic, but good quality bushcraft Camp Knife from Ukraine.
I got this one, and it is dandy for $30.
The dangler sheath stays out of your way while working.

Those water purifying straws look like a good (survivalist) idea. Except I could never see myself kneeling over a muddy puddle to have a drink.
I tried not to drink any of Lake Erie growing up, but I wasn't always successful.

I have one of these, and have used it in the Algonquins canoeing, and on the Georgian Bay kayaking and camping on one of the 1000 Islands. It works great and is small.

This is the survivalist gift I want for Christmas.
Stribog SP9A1
It will fit in a backpack (folding stock, brace). It probably won't fit in my Christmas stocking (but I could hang up some pantyhose).

those life straws are pretty good idea. also maybe a nice heavy duty reliable multi-tool of some sort would come in handy in the boonies.
