My Old Friend, it is Time for You to Shine Again!

When you have a moment let’s see a bit of your display, not your neighbors . . . yours. Big or small, what do you do?

Hey Fish, very nice. Wish I still had ours. I'm trying to get the gumption up to put our decs out. It will be tomorrow. Tired today after hosting Turkey Day and our son is available to put up the high stuff

A few weeks ago went over to my moms house and our one kid who bought a house this spring wanted her old XMAS decorations, well some of them.  We got the metal reindeer big and small to put in the yard but 1/2 the lights did not work and the old plastic brittle clips holding on the lights were broke and useless.  Pulled off all the old broken plastic clips and used 20 bucks worth of 4 sets of 100 new lights each to wrap thru and around the metal reindeer using a ton of 4 inch white zip strips.  Worked out well good as new for 20 bucks of new lights.  Also got an old snowman 4ft tall made of white type of rubber and has 3 lights inside that still worked to light it up.  Delivered all 3 yesterday to the kid and she was so happy seeing them lit up.  New am sure all 3 would be 200 bucks new.  I also took for ourselves an old 1970's 2 ft tall ceramic Xmas tree that looks really nice and lights up and is big enough for our needs have not put up a fake 5-6 ft tall Xmas tree since the younger kid left for college 3 years ago.

We could not fit in SUV though my mom's old, skinny 6ft tall Xmas tree our daughter also wanted to sit outside though will have to be next trip up come next week when other kid closes on his house Dec. 1st.   That one will be a truckload full and then some since also bringing up a kitchen table and chairs and twin mattress/boxframe, along with tons of kitchen stuff, etc, etc, etc..

I will have to keep the speed down on the interstate though 75 mph or under for I do not want anything blowing out of the back of the truck even bungee corded/ratchet strapped down somewhat.  I have a 7x23 enclosed trailer but might work to shoe-horn all of that in the backseat of truck and 6.5ft bed, well maybe?  Sorta be nice to have a 7x12 foot enclosed trailer would be ideal size and much easier to maneuver and tow.  My neighbor has one and he uses it weekly seeing him going up and down our street towing it nearly every week.

IN years past, we would put out three deer, two does and a buck.  Over the years the lights on them slowly went out.  So, they got a trip to the dump.  Also, would put out light on the pine tree by where I would put the deer.  Problems with shoulders and having them come unplugged during high winds cause me to not put them out any more.  Hey the tree was some 40' tall and could only put light up some 20'.  Anyway, last year we got some ribbon lights and wrapped our railing on the porch street side.  Looked pretty good.  Red and while lights.  No pic's yet.  Maybe later.

Some folks in our neighborhood go really far out in putting lights on homes and having blow up stuff.  So our railing wrap is not much.

take out wilmington nc

We haven't done anything for the last couple years, but since this has been an extra  crappy year, we decided to just hang a couple lights out to change the mood. Didn't get carried away. Left most of the decorations stored away in the basement.

Neighbors have every blow up Christmas oriented things you can buy plus all kinds lights and glitter. We have airplanes circling overhead thinking its an airport or something 2funny

My daughter asked me what I'm putting up this year...pointing out the fact I've done nothing since being forced out of my Fla. home after Rita's passing. I told her I had rather large plans for this year, got the ideas from some of the advertising in the Amish phone book. She didn't catch on at first but her husband did and was rolling on the floor...which she didn't find amusing. I left and headed out to run a couple errands, was walking through a store when my cell buzzed me. Me.."hello." My daughter.."you're an ass" then click. I later found out she had some choice words for her hubby as well. Years ago I found one of the best ways to treat my girls when they're "mad at dad" is to walk up behind them and encircle them with my arms, which also pins their arms to their side, then simply whisper "I love you" in their ear. At first my eldest would fuss at me, telling me to stop cuz "I'm not done being mad at you." Then laugh about it. I did the same thing Thanksgiving Day at my daughter's place...it still works!  smitten

I'm still not putting up anything, but at least she's ok with it now. Wink
