Should be a good day today. I get to ride the Valk to work on a warmer day. It is already 23 degrees and getting warmer toward the lower 60s. After work I'm meeting my wife and some college friends to attend a lecture on campus. I like getting to take part in campus lectures again. So today I get to ride, work, and learn. Can't get much better than that.
I believe today's lecture on LOTR has been booked and probably over booked so that should be fun. Its always good to get crammed in together to discuss great books.
------ The Lord of the Rings is the most popular literary work of the last century. It was also one of the most successful movies ever made.
What is the secret of its success?
This coming Friday, January 15th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Haid Theatre, Professor Joseph Pearce, author of Tolkien: Man and Myth (HarperCollins 1998) and editor of Tolkien: A Celebration (HarperCollins 1999), will unlock The Lord of the Rings, disclosing its hidden treasury of meaning. Professor Pearce’s talk is the first event of 2010 sponsored by the Bradley Institute for the Study of Christian Culture.
Find out the significance of the date on which the Ring is destroyed. Discover the importance of the date on which the Fellowship leaves Rivendell. Learn the true identity of Sauron, the Dark Lord.
These hidden meanings and many more will be revealed as Professor Pearce unlocks The Lord of the Rings.
Admission is free to the public and Professor Pearce’s talk qualifies as a cultural credit for Abbey students. Seating is limited (less than 200), so reserve your seat HERE today.
