45,000 refugees to Florida?
I don't think this is going to be received by Floridians too well. Unemployment is high, so lets add another 45,000 people to the mix?  tickedoff
Maybe they are just importing 45,000 new democratic votes? Undecided

http://www.wftv.com/countybycounty/22242754/detail.html

I'd rather pump money into keeping them at home. If I had to do something.

Lets not forget what Pat Robertson said about the Haitians getting what they deserve.
He claims that the Haitian government made a deal with the devil.

I live in S Fla and Im a Christian and Im also not in favor of them comming here. Just because you are a Christian dosent mean you have to accept things just because people are in need. Jesus said the poor you will always have with you. So lets stop with the Christian bs from those who dont even know what a Christian is.  Should we help them yes and the US has Pledged 100 mil already and that's without the cost of the military and such. We have a aircraft carrier that is going to be stationed there to aid in the landing of aircraft and supplies. The current administration has not helped the 12 to 22 percent unemployment rate in the US they have not helped homeowners keep there houses have not made any progress at limiting the national debt and are going to raise taxes on things and not renew the existing tax cuts that are already on the books. The cost of Health care is already a issue and you are going to provide these orphans with money, living, health care, food and all manner of things that will cost us dearly, no way.  Florida already has one of the highest home foreclosure rates, people are moving out of Florida because they have no work. Most business are down 10 to 60 percent. Now from what I have seen because I live in a area that has quite a few Haitians living close is not a good thing for a myriad of reasons. Some places I go I feel I have to learn French just to understand what is being said and if you have a problem with it they look at you like you are nuts. Here in Florida they have to change the required car insurance coverage because most of these lovely people dont carry car insurance and if your hit by them forget about collecting. DMV scam issuing drivers licenses for 1600.00 a piece for Haitians that wouldn't qualify normally. Accident scams like rear ending.  If there's  only 45k why not put them in Idaho or Texas or maybe Indiana lets see what these people have to say. You guys dont live close to many so to most here its a plain simple humanitarian issue but to me who lives and works close its a problem. I know it sounds like I am prejudice but its not true. racial profiling some times not discrimination its more learning how a majority of some people live and having to adjust your concepts till you learn otherwise on a case by case basis. Oh I almost forgot they all have a cell phone and driving, walking, in the store whatever the activity it always goes better with a cell phone. They may not have the money to repair the car or food or keep things clean but no one misses a cell phone. There are also allot of U.S. dollars going to Haiti by the people that work here that are sending money back home too.

Ind doesn't want them. We have the largest Burmese refugees up here already. They cause no problems. Most are hard workers and work at a Chicken plant 3 counties away.
What about the counrty that butts up to Haiti? Can't they go there since it will be close to home?

Just to keep all posted hospitals here in S Fla have already been treating the victims of the earthquake. One Haitian was upset in a interview stating why are the people that are coming in for rescue looking for the non nationals first. Gee, I wonder. The US has already spent 50 mil on the rescue efforts without the cost of the military expense and of course the wide spread looting in Haiti is a problem. I am really pissed that the government can spend this money on Haitians and I know at least 10 to 15 people that have or are in the process or have lost their homes when in reality with a adjustment in payment or a reduction in mortgage these people could have remained in their homes. I know people here that need medical help and cant get it and now we are importing Haitians into some of the best trauma hospitals in Florida. What kind of cost per day do you think that is? I'm sorry that people here are not taken care of before we play rescuer to the nations. OH the great United Nations has done almost nothing for this cause, the one that condemns the US for siding with Israel and comments on the US policies saying we are to wealthy and powerful Nation so therefore we should divest ourselves of some of this. Iran calling us the great satan, How about our president apologizing to the world  for what we have here and that we are not a Christian Nation. Well if we are not and we are so bad why do we have to give a rats ass for any problem somewhere else lets see who picks up the slack.  tickedoff Saudi Arabia, with all those petrol dollars,Russia in a bit worse shape than the US, Muslims, Iran building reactors all sadly seem to have no money to help the Haitians. But they sure can condemn us meaning you and me for what we have done for the rest of the world and what we have now when in all the World Wars we gave blood to help.

I think Japan sent money after an earth quake or tidal wave in Alaska.

Haitians have a bad track record.  The people in FL are going to see an increase in  violent crime and all the expenses that go along with it. As long as Obama is using tax bucks to buy black votes and impress the Third World, why not settle the Haitians in DC or Chicago?

Well, my VRCC friends, you have truly inspired me.

Normally when one of these high profile disasters takes place I have a thought that I should contribute specifically to the victims of the particular event, but I seldom get around to it.  I have my general charities to which I contribute, but these things that make the big splash seldom specifically get my contribution.

This time, after reading some of your posts I actually got off my duff and followed through.

The sad thing is that in a short time the newness of this event will have worn off and the donations will dry up, but the victims in Haiti will still be trying to dig out from this one a long time down the road.

Well said, Willow.

I live in Arkansas and Vietnamese and Cubans have been brought here in the past and I would welcome the govt to bring the Haitians here for as long as necessary.  I am not a Christian or Religious for that matter but those people are in our Hemisphere and they need help or they will be here.  Oh yeah, I did live in New Orleans in '05 and I have seen misery.  Flame on.

If there was 19,000 before the quake and no one seemed to mind then I don't think people will care there are a few more. Unless the numbers make them think about it and then they send aid.

There is a local couple here who have adopted 2 little ones, ages 3 and 5 (I think).  Before they could get out of the country, the quake happened.  The orphanage where these kids are has collapsed!  They are living in tents with not enough to eat.  They are thinking that the records of the adoption may be lost in the ruins.
Yea........no one cares. Sad

How about 70 people per day having a limb removed. As a member of the human race I think I should help and have participated in a school effort (school where I work) to help. I made it through hurricane andrew and remember what it felt like to feel abandoned.

Call me a softy but children and old people suffering in mass bothers me.

My thoughts are that we have so many children in the system looking for a good home.So many people without jobs, losing their homes, living in the streets and hungry. We have sent so much money to these off-shore countries just to be wasted by the leaders of them. The leaders mostly don't care how their people live or prepare for disasters. They use it to live high on the hog and build fancy mansions.Look what Iraq and Iran and the Afagan gov built with American dollars.Look at the money the went out of the country and still is and now look at the jobs that followed. We have to get our house in order before we can send much more out.Another thing, those countries down there let bussinesses use them for tax havens and now we can just send them the rest of our tax dollars.I have two kids that have lost jobs to plants moving overseas and lost their houses...j.....enough is enough.........Done ranting........continue on tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff JerryB.
On a side  note:They outa send people to some of these countries and teach them to abstain from sex and hand out condoms after their taught what they are used for......3Million people and a town that can only support 40k people.Whats wrong with that picture?

Jerry, you've kids that lost jobs to factories that went to Haiti?  What kind of work do they do?

I certainly see your point as it applies to the rather general category of "foreign aid", but I see that as very separate from "disaster relief".  Perhaps it's a distinction that not everyone would make.

Americans, Valkyrie riders in general, and VRCC members in particular have had a reputation for being generous.  I like being part of those groups.
