Been looking for one of these for years now with no luck.
Even bought a XR500R in 2019 and flipped it after a year
and a half or so it just wasn't a 600.
Christmas came early for me because I finally found a
1999 XR600R a month ago that is just about new.
Spent this week tuning cleaning and adding a couple extras
to it. One extra was a tank cover so I don't have to worry
about the decals falling off. I fought that for years.
It looks good sitting beside the two Valkyries.

Looks like it’s right off the showroom  cooldude

Pretty close. The guy I bought it from got it from a 68 year old man
that bought it new. He lived at Primland in Meadows of Dan Va.
He only rode it on gravel roads and not much of that. The carburetor
was a victim of Ethanol fuel and had to be cleaned. Spent this week
tuning, cleaning and adding extras to it. Not a hardcore woods rider
anymore but it's fun to play on them from time to time.

You are very specific on this hunt, that makes me ask your thoughts on this against a new 650?

I have a thing for the 600 this is my 4th one. I regretted selling the last
one I had. I have looked for many years trying to find one and all I could
find was a wore out $500.00 bike that the seller wanted $5000.00 for.
Since this one was like new I figured I would grab it because they don't
come up for sale much around here. I have had a bunch of the
big bore Honda's and like the 600 the best. I had this 650R and 650L at the
same time. The 650R's motor had unbelievable power but didn't ride
good for me. The 650L is Ok but needs more power.
The 600 rides and handles way better than the 650's with power right
in the middle of the two.

The day I move out of Florida and to Sylva NC I will want something Honda and street legal and go find simple fire roads. I have had the opportunity to ride there on a friends KLR 650 and I really enjoyed it. This was Fines Creak area to Max Patch.  Beautiful!

That is a beautiful area. My favorite place to ride my 650L was South
Mountain in Burke County North Carolina. The suspension is excellent
on them but when we came upon the hill climbs which are my favorite
I had to be a spectator. I have read up on the KLR and they say they
are much better on the street than the 650L. If Honda had put a 650R
engine on a 650L I would have one right now.
The 650R power was unbelievable 60 Horsepower uncorked. Honda
seems to stay with the same thing for a long time like the 650L that only
the color and graphics have changed the entire run from 1993-2021 and
still going.
