Good looking family.  Merry Christmas to you all.

I had expected to see an expert badge.  Not criticizing; just expressing my surprise.

She's not embarrassed by the badge (And you're not the first person that's known her long term to comment on such), evidently the range they were training and shooting on was in..... sub-optimal condition.

The range hadn't been mowed and there was thick grass taller than the targets, and they use some new-fangled sonically powered system to tell if you hit a target or not, and it wasn't very reliable.

Even the Drill Sergeants were barely able to shoot a minimum qualifying score.

She'd like to have a chance to try again with a properly set up range, but ironically since her current address is on "Rifle Range Road", there is no rifle range at her current base to practice or qualify on.

Great pics.  cooldude

What a crummy deal.  I seem to remember some pictures of that.

Not surprised there's no ranges around there.

Ft Belvior here has no range either.  Something called a 3d range (whatever that is).

I was able to shoot pistols at the Belvoir indoor range until it was bull dozed, over 25 years ago.

When I got back from overseas tours (CA), I was able to finagle my way into pistol and rifle classes to shoot for qualification (space available).  Expert each time.

Yes, Merry Christmas to all.

Great pictures of the young Marine!  Probably going to be tough in the years going forward to have her home for the holidays as she will undoubtably be overseas.  Enjoy this time.

As far as rifle qualifying, I qualified Marksman in the Army out of Basic too.  And that, after shooting squirrels for a good decade prior; it was just not my day come qualifying day.  Stationed in West Germany a few years though we had a military rifle range close enough to us.  A volunteer sign up was posted every year or so and we could requalify then. (I was an aircraft mechanic and hardly touched a M16 out of Basic)  One does get better with open sights with time.  So, once one qualifies as Expert make sure that paperwork is put in the military file and wear the Expert hardware.  Just make sure that Expert paperwork is the last one in the file as that will be what is on a DD214 forever once one separates.

Marines might be different though as they march to their own beat.

Part of the (svs) confusion could be the new uniform; new (old) pinks and greens.

I like it.

Yes, she is but she is of the quality that should have caused her to become USMC.

If only they'd had a competitive skydiving team on par with the Golden Eagles, she might have gone that route...

Me and the spousal unit were just reminiscing, and if when Kali was an adolescent, if we were asked to write down our top 100 possible options for what she would be doing after high school, US Soldier wouldn't have even been on that list. Totally caught us off guard, but a happy surprise it has been!

I think she is too intelligent to qualify as a Marine.  Evil Evil

Oh, and that is why in military classes of mixed services the Marines tend to come out on top?  She is not too intelligent to be in the Army but it is a bit of a waste.   Smiley

She indeed has some Marines in her class, she commented upon meeting them "I didn't know Marines came in 'scrawny nerd' form."

I've been enjoying her and a Marine mutual friend sling shade at each other on Facebook...

His latest:

To which she came back with:

Luckily for her, him being a Marine, he didn't look up and throw back the fact that the Marines require a higher ASVAB score than the Army. Only one point higher, but higher nonetheless...
