As it turned out, this was my last ride of the year. The weather around here is kinda cool at times and I don’t mean temperature wise in this instance. Was about 15c/60f so I made a run south of here 75km/50mls for a brew and wings. While I was enjoying my reward I got a text from my good buddy who was skiing about 120km/75mls straight into those clouds west of me. Yup, and it was snowing like crazy there in those Rocky Mountains! When you see the clouds hanging west like that but not coming any closer, you know they are getting a good dump. You also know the end of riding season is near. My good buddy Kirby out with his daughters for a day of skiing! Exactly one month later….. I got the snow blower out for the heck of it and clear the back yard as it is all brick. Forgot to take gloves out with me so I used my cool weather riding gloves and man, they were warm. Hopefully a bit of global warming will blow in in the form of a Chinook soon but until then, I will wait and wait and wait…….for spring to come.

yah, old man winter is here to stay at least thru most of March, no more riding cycles for sure. We got our first 2-3 inch wet/heavy snowfall yesterday after going nearly entire month of December 1st time ever no snow. I forgot how HEAVY 3 inches of wet heavy snow is as I age/get fatter/lazier/worse shape. A few years ago I only got out the OLD BLUE 1974 Sears Homelite snowblower (1 forward speed and 1 reverse speed) if was 6 inches or more of snow. I think now the limit is 3 inches of snow anything more and am firing up the beast not as great of shape as I once was. Just got back from Xmas visiting kids more up north and I got running the smaller old John Deere snowblower since daughter's fiancee could not get it started. Hopefully, he runs it and figures it out how to keep it running for I cannot go up there 3.5 hour drive north everytime he cannot fix or get running either the push lawnmower or old snowblower.

Well t-man, it's nice that you got out for that ride for sure. Great pics! We just got back from our daughter's place in Northern BC where we spent Christmas... had a couple days of -47 C ...yikes!! Got home to good old Agassiz and it was freakin' -20 C with a good skiff of snow, so no end of the year riding for me. So far this Winter...at least during the holiday season, I kinda feel like an honorary "real hardcore" Canadian, not the Winter Wimps the rest of you East of the Rockies generally consider us Southern BC'ers to be Happy New Year to ya

Here in Southern OR, I was able to ride the first two weeks of December. Not long rides, mostly in the low 100 mile type. The last weeks have been rather white. We at town level have had around 15" of white fall. Mountains have gotten feet of white, by the way that is where it is supposed to fall. More than all of last winter. Roads in front of our home are still white, but some of the major roads have melted out. NO salt is applied to our local roads, but they do use #2 gravel. It will be another 3-4 weeks before we melt out. Beginning to get PMS.

We are supposed to get our first white Saturday, along with the coldest temps so far this season (down to 2F above zero) for an overnight low this weekend.

I haven't seen snow in about 84 months, and, I don't ever plan on seeing it again.

Ever had any windshield rock chips because of the gravel though? I know following snowplow trucks scattering the salt all over that even with the salt tiny rock chips in the vehicle's windshield are common here in WI. I know there has been talk for a number of years to use the by product of making cheese here in WI for use in applying to the roads in winter, great idea. With about 10 cheese factories all within a 50 mile radius of me, the roads might smell like deep fried cheese curds instead...

Yeah, one can get chips in the windshield. Not so bad here in OR as it was in WY. The used bigger rocks in WY. Would replace a windshield every 3-4 years. But some of that was from the finer stuff leaving very small spots. Wouldn't notice except when driving into the sun. BUT, our vehicles didn't rot out from the salt.
