Birth of a Stone.

What a Saturday. I was told several years ago that I had 22 small kidney stones in my right kidney that would come out over time and they have. They also told me I had one that was about 14mm that would never move so shouldn't be a problem. They were wrong been fighting this monster for a few months now. Would have already went and had it blasted but ironically my wife had a Kidney transplant 9 months ago and they are keeping her immune system suppressed so her body doesn't reject the Kidney so I have been just trying to deal with it and not take any chances going to a doctor. Seems like it took forever for it to get from point A to B. I could tell exactly where it was on it's journey toward the end. For the last couple weeks it has been real close and partially obstructing nature. So I have been mixing 2 ounces of Apple Cider Vinegar with Honey and drinking it twice a day. Don't know if it helped or not just a old home remedy I had been told of. Today at 4 O'clock it's a wonder the glass in my house didn't shatter because with one mighty push Mr. Stone is free at last. How is this Valkyrie related....Now I can ride one of the two I have and not be in pain thankfully.

Mine was a terrible ordeal, and I never found it.  I got tired of peeing though and looking at a (bloody) cloth.   The pain is bad enough, but it's how long it takes that is the killer.  Mine was about 20 hours.

 I had the laser treatment for a pair of stones a few months back . The Laser  was much better than the lithotrypsy I had 30 years ago.

I’ve been lucky in life, never had one. My wife has had several. BUT NOTHING CLOSE TO THAT SIZE !

I knew it was big but when I saw it all I could say was Damn.

Sheer luck I would guess. We went to South Carolina today
and when home I went to the bathroom and strained real
hard at the end and eureka stone out.
It hurt and freaked me out at the same time. If it hadn't
came out in the next few days I would have had to go to the
E.R.

Thanks. I knew every time the smaller ones would pass and never
even cared to see them. They hurt but this one was different. As
long as it took to make it to the light so to speak I figured getting
it out would be tough. I never heard any of the others hit the big
white porcelain bowl but this one sounded off pretty loud.
Afterwards my wife and I were laying in the bed talking and I asked
her to look up the biggest kidney stone that had been passed naturally
when she said 5.11 inches to which I said Bull**** then she saw it
was just the biggest one on record. I read that 5 to 6 mm stones may
have to be medically removed so I got really lucky with a 20mm x 14mm one. I put this one in a old pill bottle to keep just for the heck of it.

Thank you. Yes I am very happy because I kinda knew I had passed
all the smaller ones over the years but when this one hit I wondered
if it was another problem or what it turned out to be.
My urologist said it would never move but between riding on and off
road motorcycles and getting jarred around pretty good at work it
must have dislodged it. If there is a next time I might have to go to
the doctor and try out the laser.
What's that old saying never say never.

Wow...more of a man than I. At 5mm I had one that put me in the hospital for a week, wouldn't pass and the pain was excrutiating. I don't know how one could stand the pain of one that size but kudos to you. My penis machinist put me on Allopurinol at that time and haven't had a stone since.

There is an herb called Chanca Piedra that keeps the stones small and soft so they just flush out in normal activity. One of my old riding buds and my SiL swear by the stuff.

Thanks. I hope my adventures with stones are done. Last Saturday
on New Years Day it was partly cloudy and 75 degrees here.
I got my bike out to ride and as soon as I got ready to leave
it flew into hurting me. Spoiled a nice opportunity to ride.

Yup, used it and Azo(think I got that right) during my prostate cancer treatment. The radiation didn't bother me externally but sure messed up the plumbing for a while. Got to the point where if I didn't use that stuff you felt every drop...or ripped the towel bar off the wall.

Oss told me magnesium citrate and I started taking it daily.

Since then (please don't take this as a challenge universe) no more kidney stones and my diet hasn't changed.

I also take allopurinol for gout and that helps with keeping the stones from forming.

I have no idea of the size of mine although I do recall one bouncing off the sides of the toilet like a pinball followed by an audible splash. This was after I had been lifting a washer and dryer in to place in the house I'd just moved into.

I had 2, 7mm and 9mm just snuggled nicely into the fat and not bothering a thing. Doc decided he needed to blast. He botched that causing me 4 days of hell. I had to lay head low on the stairs for 4 days and thought I was going to shake myself apart. The chunks finally came out. When I explained this to Doc all he said was why did I try to be a hero and not call him. I said he was the one that turned me loose not saying a word. He expected me to go back to blast the other side, I laughed at him and have not seen him since [ 20 yrs]. Doctors call their work practice for a reason.

I'm pretty sure mine were caused by not drinking enough water.
Since I started having trouble with them several years ago I try
to at least drink 5 or 6 bottles of water per day.
After passing this Sumbeach yesterday I think I might try one gallon
per day for a little extra insurance.  :

I was having trouble for about a week. It was obstructing pretty good.
Reading up on them I got lucky to pass it being that size.
Luckily it was shaped kinda like a pinto bean because if had been one
of those spikey looking ones I believe I would have been in trouble.
I told my wife imagine trying to drink water through a coffee straw vs
a normal straw that is the difference now.
Like going from stock exhaust to unbaffled Cobras.

I had one a couple years ago.  It hurt during it's journey to the bladder.  After that, it just sort of smoothly popped out.  It was only 3mm, so I got lucky.   I cannot imagine the pain of passing that huge sucker.

Globally, approximately 80% of kidney stones are composed of calcium oxalate (CaOx) mixed with calcium phosphate (CaP). Stones composed of uric acid, struvite and cystine are also common and account for approximately 9%, 10% and 1% of stones, respectively

So while they vary in content, the vast majority are calcium.

This put me off all multivitamins, as they all have calcium. 

But I drink lots of lowfat milk.
