Me and my Valk at Freedom Rock

« on: January 09, 2022, 05:29:32 PM »

Wife and I are going to the Tampa area again in May.
We are going to drive down there again.

We live in NW Iowa and our general route will basically be a line from here to our hotel in Tampa and will have us pass through or near St. Louis, Nashville, Atlanta and then Tampa.

What I am looking for is a place or places along the general area worth seeing or stopping for.

I am hoping to skirt the major urban areas but still want to make it to Tampa in fairly short order.

I have some flexibility time wise on the front end of the trip and the return has less flexibility.

Restaurants, flea markets, farm markets, special scenic areas, and such. Things worth a quick stop to maybe even a half day visit.

Generally looking for areas for our overnight stays and would work things into those plans.

While we did drive down last year we were pretty focused on getting to Tampa and didn't really look to hard at places along the way.

Thanks!

In Leeds, AL is the Barber MC museum. Leeds is in SE Alabama and a slight detour would send you through there. Well worth the stop.

My one and only time in Tampa, the Manatee viewing area next to the power plant and Busch Gardens after the hurricane that left the park in pretty bad shape palm tree wise.

40 years ago, FL was the only place I ever heard of (or visited) that had liquor stores connected to strip joints under one roof.  And business always seemed to be booming.

What a novel idea.   Grin

This may not be what you had in mind.

Apparently you can read my mind quite well. But, the wife can too so we aren't doing that.

There are several nice bourbon tours in Kentucky.   Not sure of your route but we stopped at five or six a few years ago on a ride through Kentucky.

And they do give samples Smiley .

It's literally in downtown Atlanta, and not everyone's cup of tea, but if you're at all interested in aquariums and the like the Georgia Aquarium is one of, if not the best aquarium on Earth...

Now that I think about it, the idea probably was devised specifically as a way around wives.

Where are you going?

Oh I'm going to run across town to pick up some imported beer and a couple nice bottles of wine that are on sale at this one place.  I'll be back later.

OK, have fun with that.
