Why would anyone shave a cow like that?

Broussard, Louisiana

« on: January 16, 2010, 05:00:22 PM »

Never say never, I reckon.  Man, it was almost 3 years ago that my laptop gave up the hard drive ghost.  Had 2 since then, but what bummed me out was the pictures I lost.  Well, everytime I have been home, I have tried to boot it and the most I could get was 2 minutes or so - usually less, if it booted at all - which was less than 1% of the time.

Well, I am watching the Saints game and decided to give it a try...it booted up long enough (15 minutes or so) and it gave me time to pull a bunch of pictures off of it....MAN, DID THOSE BRING BACK MEMORIES - from 2007.....BOY HOWDY!!!!!!

Times and memories (miles and smiles).....Like when we found a place to eat in Utah that actually had a library to match us - at the table even!!!  And JP and I were just talking about that waitress at that place yesterday - maybe it was destined to get these photos.

Hard6 (JP) had just retired that day.....

Man, memories sure flooded back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then I realized who probably put the mojo into my PC to get it to crash - like rescue photos....

Also other things came to mind like visiting Kansas and what ya had to do just to get a piece of pie....

Gotta admit though, the PIE WAS WORTH IT!!!!

Anyway, my PC has been crashed since 2007 and got to back up some memories today!!!!!  Never say NEVER!!!!!!!!!!

I did bring some questions back to mind though....

Like, why doesn't anyone post about those Big Horn Mountains that are stuck in the middle of the plains with the awesome grades and curves?  I mean, you can ride out of the plains in a tee shirt and within a hour, be up in the snow.

And why would some vandal children go and shave a cow like that?

Are you sure it is the drive I mean you could get a external case for the laptop drive and would not have to boot it but your other computer would see it as a external drive.  That way you could get all the pics you want off it  Cool
Most of the time if a drive goes it goes. Sounds like the processor is going or something else on the motherboard is overheating and shutting it down.    Sure would like to see the rest  cooldude

Oh my what an adventure that was!!  We had ridden through some of the most glorious country I have ever seen!!  I don't remember the name of the town -- but that is where we held up in Utah because Kendall had the bad tire going flat ----

Wow what a trip that was!  Thanks for the memories --- sure miss riding with Billy & Wyatt   Cry

I think roboto6 may be right. You could remove the hard drive from the laptop http://www.fonerbooks.com/laptop_1.htm and turn it into an external drive with a simple enclosure. They're not expensive. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=2777&name=Hard-Drive-Enclosure Check the specs on yours first to make sure of the size.

The enclosures are pretty slick. Your computer will recognize it as new hardware and likely 'wizard' you through the process or simply let you explore the data you have on it through windows explorer.

Good luck!

When my wife and I were married a friend of ours took some photos of the event. Unlike the pro-photographer, he didn't focus on the married couple, but instead the crowd around. A few weeks after we came home from the honeymoon he gave us a little photo album of our family and friends on that day. That was cool. He also gave us a CD of the pics in case we wanted to make copies later, unfortunately the CD never worked.

I couldn't bring myself to throw it away, but I was fairly sure he hadn't burned it properly.

The other day I threw the CD into the computer for kicks and it opened, so I  copied the pics off quickly. It hasn't worked on any computer until that one, but the copy works on every computer it has encountered.

Occasionally computers just take pity on us I guess.

I like digital photos but I can't bring myself to completely trust the computers I use to work them.

Strider Try a Copy of Spinrite
It often can fix hard drives well long enough to get everything you need off your drive.

I warn you it can take many many hours at times but well worth the try .

Here is a link ....

if the drive is not damaged, there is an inexspensive adapter to plug the hard drive into on another computer and get anything you want off the drive
