“Mash Trivia”……I record all “Mash” reruns on tv and watch them as much as I can. I have watched them for yrs. Had a guy tell me the other day that “Radar” has a deformed left hand and in the Mash shows he keeps it covered by something all the time. I just watched a Mash episode and in one scene you could plainly see his left hand is deformed. Not that it is important but just amazes me that as many Mash shows I never noticed it.

I never noticed it, but after I read about it I looked for it. I don't remember seeing the deformation, but it is obvious a lot of the time he is hiding his hand...

We had the mash trivia game and I am an avid Mash fan. I totally sucked at the game. There were so many cameo roles and items used that were not used in the Korean war. We still watch the reruns. Sometimes we see one that is new or we do not remember. Alan Alda's father was in one and Colonel Potter was in an earlier episode as a whacked out officer.

Those are minor. I didn't know about Radar's hand. While I was going to college - MASH was on 2 or 3 times a day - I rarely missed an episode (or rerun). Even today - if you have MeTV available - it is on 1800 and 1830 Central time. Alan Alda's dad (Robert Alda - also an accomplished actor) appeared in a couple episodes, both times playing a cocky civilian surgeon / consultant (the same one each time). Harry Morgan played LT Gen Steele before he got the role of COL Potter when McLain Stevenson ( LT COL Henry Blake) decided he wanted off the show. The last scene in the OR where they announced Henry's death was done as a "last minute" surprise for the cast - so they could catch as realistic emotions as possible. Larry Linville did a yeoman's job playing the hated MAJ Frank Burns, They finally let him go when they didn't have anything else they could do with the role. IMO, the later seasons with MAJ Winchester (David Ogden Stires) and the smart, put together Maj Houlihan (with COL Potter and BJ Hunnicutt) were better then the first ones that were mostly laughs.

I must be gittin jaded. I have METV and I git the Mash reruns. I paid No Attention to Radar's hand(s). I M O Every episode had at least One cursed good zinger line in it. I had the Mash trivia game and I was lousy at it too! I'd venture to state Most Former Military types relate quicker to some of the happenings in Mash than some other folks might. My First Wife Is a Former Navy Corpsman. She had a Lot of insight I lacked. And She had some stories that would even today NEVER make prime time T V. RIDE SAFE.

... I'd venture to state Most Former Military types relate quicker to some of the happenings in Mash than some other folks might. ... Not so much. M.A.S.H. was a sitcom projecting civilian Vietnam era views onto a Korean War situation. I doubt very seriously that they had a real military experienced advisor.

I agree Carl. I enjoyed MASH as a sitcom of tomfoolery in my youth.
I can hardly watch it at all now.... esp anything with (prima donna) Alda or Ferrell preaching their anti military crap.
And like most long running sitcoms, it was clear they were having trouble thinking up new plot lines in later seasons. It just got old.
I actually met Harry Morgan once (sat with him at a wedding), and he was a very nice and regular fellow.

The show was funny in the early episodes, then turned more and more PC. Gary had a congenital deformity, brachydactyly caused by Poland syndrome. 3 fingers on his left hand are significantly smaller than those on his right hand. Robert Alda, Anthony Alda, Alan Alda

My favorite episode is the one where the bomb falls into the camp and Hawkeye and Trapper are sent out to disarm it. 'Cut the wires to the detonator" snip snip. 'But first" ......

Radar was one of the few, maybe only, that went from the movie to the series.
He is an avid fisherman and holds several patents on lures.

You're right. Gary Burghoff was the only primary character to make the transition to the TV series. I had thought Loretta Swit was in both but that character was played by Sally Kellerman in the movie. It was easy for me to cross those two as they looked so alike in the role.

Also, in one of the images on the test you can see Radar's left hand and, if you look closely, there is some "disfigurement" there. Never noticed it before.
