I haven't visited this board in months, mostly because I don't ride my Valks much these days. The cruise control, heated grips, and good audio on my F6B spoiled me, so that bike gets ridden on all long trips. My '98 Tourer reached 100,000 miles before the warranty expired, but these days it only gets ridden about 500 miles a year.
The last oil change was in 2017 so I figured it was probably overdue. After 4+ years I was concerned that the oil may have deteriorated in some way, and also wondered about the Pure One filter. There were a lot of complaints about tears in the filter media with that brand, especially in the size some of us use for the Valkyrie. And the engine is well broken in, with over 176,000 miles. So I got the oil tested.
I was pleasantly surprised that the results were great, as good or better than GL-1500 averages. Wear metals were low, viscosity and additives were normal, and there was no unwanted fuel or antifreeze. In fact the results were very similar to my F6B with a far fewer miles. Apparently it's not necessary to change your oil every year regardless of the mileage. And these engines can last a very long time. The test results for both bikes are posted below.
