One of the best concerts I saw was "Bat Out of Hell". Hammersmith Odeon in Hammersmith, London, in June 1978.

RIP... I've never listened to Meatloaf much, but I was thinking about
him the other day... I was listening to Todd Rundgren, who produced
Bat Out Of Hell, talking about the album on youtube...

I liked much of his music, I didn't know till I read about his death he was from Texas.   I'm curious, did he ride?  I know several of his albums were all about riding to hell.   Obviously, I'm no expert on Meatloaf.

One of my favorite songs was Paradise by the Dashboard Lights.   Even to this day when if comes on the radio, I can sing along and know the lyrics.   I'm not about to suggest it's a good thing, cats are terrified, dogs begin to howl but, I know the lyrics. Wink

Died from the Vid at 74 ! Too bad, I wonder if that was the true cause.

2 out of 3 was my favorite of his.

He did ? I hadn’t heard a cause of death.

Officially no cause of death was given but TMZ dug up some contacts saying he got COVID and went down hill very quickly from it:

https://www.tmz.com/2022/01/21/meat-loaf-dead-dies-singer/

One of the best concerts I ever attended; It was a smallish venue on the SMU campus in Dallas in the early 90's, didn't matter it wasn't a huge arena, he poured every ounce of his being into that performance that night, and from what I've heard, he did that every single time he went on stage.

I was really hoping I'd get the chance to see him in concert at least one more time.

<CENSORED> Covid and those who allowed it to be unleashed on the world.

I remember everything
I remember every little thing as if it only happened yesterday
I was barely seventeen, and I once killed a boy with a fender guitar
I don't remember if it was Telecaster or Stratocaster
But I do remember that it had a heart of chrome, and a voice like a horny angel
I don't remember if it was Telecaster or Stratocaster
But I do remember that it wasn't at all easy

It required the perfect combination of the right powerchords
And the precise angle from which to strike!

The guitar bled fo about a week afterwards
And the blood was zoot, dark and rich, like wild berrys
The blood of the guitar was Chuck Berry red
The guitar bled for about a week afterwards
But it rung out beautifully
And I was able to play notes that I had never even heard before

So I took my guitar
And I smashed it against the wall
I smashed it agains the floor
I smashed it againt the body of a varsity cheerleader
Smashed it against the hood of a car
Smashed it against a 1981 Harley-Davidson
The Harley howled in pain
The guitar howled in heat

And I ran upstairs to my parents bedroom
Mommy and Daddy were sleeping quietly in the moonlight
Slowly I opened the door
Creeping into the shadows right up to the foot of their bed
I raised the guitar high above my head
And just as I was about to bring the guitar crashing down upon the centre of the bed
My father woke up, screaming "STOP"
"Wait a minute, stop it boy. What do you think your doing?"
"Thats no way to treat an expensive musical instrument"
And I said "God damn it Daddy"
"You know I love you, But you've got a hell of a lot to learn about Rock 'n' Roll"

Paradise By The Dashboard Light released in '78, as I was entering high school.  It made its way onto eclectic mix tapes that were played while steaming up the windows in the family Oldsmobile.

A unique and talented man, and by all accounts a good guy.  R.I.P.

Lord I was crazed
And when the feeling came upon me
Like a tidal wave

great singer/voice, great talent, great songs like said that told a story with so much emotion into them.

Have steamed up (ONLY ONCE) the backseat windows back in 1990 or was it 1991 (been so long ago) while in college listening to that 'Paradise' song....  Yah, I know, TMI...   Grin

Gee Reb,  2005 high school, so young, yet I still think you shoulda been born in decades prior like the rest of us some 20-30+ years prior.....

Sorta surprised you knew who he was even being so young.  My kids, although only into their early 20's,  probably have no clue much of any 70/80's rock star (and country)  musicians besides having to tolerate me listening to the music while they in backseat of a vehicle growing up.  I asked my daughter's fiancee recently if he knew the song by Cinderella playing in my truck while we drove someplace over Christmas and he being age 27 never heard of Cinderella or that song ever.  Then, a RATT song came on as well popular in the 80's and yet again, he had no clue never heard it either.

I missed growing up some of the Lynyrd Skynyrd stuff back in the 70's though being too young but am sure heard all of it well into the 80's and even today and music like that never goes out of style.  Was interesting listening to their documentary on them I think was on Amazon Prime or Netflix was worth watching how they grew up and lived for nothing more than just wanting to jam and play and practice all the time.

Now just read Louie Anderson  just passed age 68 due to dreaded 'C' word.  He was pretty funny comedian as well not my all time favorite, but still funny.

I had forgotten he sung the anthem for that game until I heard them talking about it on the radio this morning.

I can remember thinking this ought to be interesting especially after the Roseanne Barr incident and his rendition was just powerful and amazing. He was a talented singer and performer.

And just like that, another part of my childhood gone.
Told my wife I was going to listen to Bat out of Hell tonight in his honor.
She thought i meant just the single.

I meant the whole album.

Rest in Rock Meat.

Cocaine is an incredible tool to incentivize....temporarily..... however, a prolonged, quantitative excess can cause some minor  adjustments to the brain's synaptic function.
Throw in a long term love affair with finding a bottle's bottom daily:
Et voila.  C'est fini.  Au revoir, mon ami.
The Loaf's mind eventually broke down, his career broke down, and finally his body broke down; happens to the best of us.
But, he had a good run nevertheless and almost hit the 3/4 century mark. viking
Well done.

My wife and I have a time share in Vegas and the Concierge at the resort usually gets us pretty good deals on shows.

In 2015 we were there for a 3 day Nursing Conference and hadn’t really planned much late night stuff. We were passing through the lobby after I picked the Mrs up from the closing day seminar and the Concierge called out  “ Hey do you guys like meat loaf ? “. I said “ Sure, is there a place close by ?”
She said , “ No , I have tickets to the Rocktalez & Cocktails late show tonight, that I can’t use. It’s a show at Planet Hollywood featuring Meat Loaf the rocker. Do you want them for FREE ? “

One of the most enjoyable, best produced, shows and Cast , I have seen in LV.
Meat Loaf was absolutely fabulous and I couldn’t believe his energy level throughout the show at his age. We had up front table seating and could actually hear the vocals from the stage.

I had seen him in the ‘70s at the Rockland County Field House in NY, and he was great, but this LV show and it’s total professionalism just blew us away.

RIP big guy .

Not sure the point of mentioning all this.... but unless he had a relapse that wasn't public, he swore off the straw and the bottle after his bad experience in the late 70's, early 80's......

Either way, don't care... we lost a good, nay, a great one....
