Just a little over 2 weeks ago...burning lots of calories each day, and getting a little recognition from the rest of Canada as being a "real" Canuck, having to plow through several feet of snow and braving double digit temps below zero....

Bikes were in hibernation, all nice and cozy

And then today  Smiley Smiley

Yup, us Southern BC'ers are just as tough and hardy as our Canadian friends and neighbors to the East and North of us .....well, for at least 2 or 3 weeks we are that is Wink

Green stuff growing outside?  Riding temps?  Not seen around the Gunnison Valley til late April.

Man, we went from -24/-11f to +4/39f in 24 hours thanks to that big arch over the mountains! This morning at 7 am it’s +8/46f! It’s a nice break for sure but the snow is needed and a lot of it is gone. Honestly -10/14f, no wind is my ideal winter temp. Needless to say, there’s no snow plowing going on around here…..at least for now!

Hey msb, we went from 15" of that white stuff and highs in low 20's to a January thaw here in Southern OR.   Have had nearly two weeks of the thaw.  Temps have been trying to get to 50 for several days.  Do like it and have been riding a bunch to make up for the weeks of white stuff.

Still have a few piles of white in the shaded areas in my yard, but they are fading fast.

Only bad thing is Weatherman is saying that this is coming to an end next weekend.   Rats!!!

be careful out there in winter riding on 2 wheels.  For me where I live, not worth the risk of seeing for a day or two 50 degree temps with melting snow all around.  Seen a few times coming around in the country a shaded corner where the sun does not shine either snow drifts or ice on the roads.

Also, the enormous salt dust sprayed up is not good for chrome or metal even if dry roads all around this time of year.

Mike has so many layers of wax on his bikes, he could ride through salt, sulphuric acid, hail and RPG fire and everything would just wash or bounce off.

haha....maybe not sulfuric acid though Wink

Thing about Winters here in the valley....most times after a good dump of snow which  can hang on for a week or two or a couple weeks of freezing temperatures, a week or two of solid rain usually follows. When it rains here, it RAINS! Sand and salt brine doesn't hang around long, by the time it stops raining , roads are good to go.
Also, as I'm certain my friend from the frozen prairies won't be surprised to hear, the bikes get a low pressure rinse from the underside on a regular basis. I've never minded getting them dirty...just don't like leaving them dirty. Smiley

We don't see real liquid precip for a good five months of the year.  What we did have this year was an unusual big, wet snow early on.  It took care of the accumulated high snowpack and melted it down.  That's why the elk photo you saw was showing patches of dry grass.  Down here it's still a winter wonderland -- I often wonder why I'm still here!  Our summers are the great reward.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the spring storms won't drop hard on us this season, sometimes we get our biggest snowstorms in March and even early April.  Our water table needs it, tho.
