I don't know how many here know MI member Jimmy Perkins, but Jimmy was having health issues due to congestive heart failure.  He has been in the hospital in Cincinnati for quite some time and wasn't doing well, and they said he was too old to be a transplant recipient.  Well, today I got a call from Big Bob Albrecht and it turns out Jimmy got a transplant on the 20th and is doing well.  I don't know what happened to change the dr.'s mind, but Bob said Jimmy sounded great on the phone.  Please keep Jimmy in your thoughts and prayers for a continued quick and full recovery.

that is great news.  About how old was he?  80 or older?  I wonder if there is a reasonable cutoff on age to perform transplants?  I think it should go by how healthy overall a person is not necessarily by just age.

I have had 2 uncles and 2 aunts pass all in their mid 60's, lower 70's and all 4 had bad hearts, but also bad lungs on oxygen.  Drs. said if 1 or the other surgery would be a possible option, but not having both. Smoking and bad genetics I think for sure contributed to them passing as well.   I still remember my Grandma passing heart attack age 68 only, while I was still living at home same town as them,  and just saw her a week or so prior walking up to my parents house on a steep hill huffing and puffing telling us not sure how much longer she will make it.    My mom is now the oldest still living also the oldest sibling of 11 being age 79, luckily she did not smoke when  younger vs. the rest did.  I think my Grandpa made it to age 76 or so diabetic having to inject needles in him daily.

Four years ago I had my aortic valve replaced.  I guess the only thing better than a valve job is an entire engine replacement.  :-) I'm sure he will do well.  Cardiology has come a long way.

Bill, Jimmy got T-boned on that bike a couple years ago, I got it mostly repaired, but sold it to Big Bob and Ed Smalling that are parting it out.  Bob had listed a bunch of the parts on Facebook, but then his account got hacked, then Bob got Covid, so there are a bunch of folks that originally tried to contact Bob about the parts, but he can't respond at the moment so it is a big Cluster Phuck at at the moment.

Speaking of parts, I still owe you some money, IM me your address and I'll send you a check.  I haven't forgotten.

Big Rick,

Thank you for the offer, but I get the impression Jimmy does not want visitors or phone calls.  I also doubt the hospital is encouraging visitors either with COVID and all.

More Good news.  I was informed by Big Bob that Jimmy is home from the hospital and is apparently doing well.  He is taking calls, but not visitors at this point.  I hope the progress continues.  Best wishes Jimmy.
