Rare Whisky Lottery

    Up front I found this on my screen just a bit ago. I KNOW we have some folks here that Know good whisky. I am Not one of them!  In Pennsylvania something called Van Winkle Whisky supposed to be rare And they are opening a lottery for purchase! I have NO idea if it is Good or Rare But there ya go. I Know someone here Will Know if it's good bad or rare! RIDE SAFE.

Yup, common practice for allocated whiskey, like Pappy van Winkle. If you win the lottery, you get to buy a bottle as MSRP.

But a bottle with a MSRP of $69 can easily fetch $1500 on the secondary market.

I've got the hookup, a friend that's the warehouse manager for a large regional liquor distributor, and have managed to get a case or two of Pappy at or below MSRP. It's okay, not bad, but IMHO way overrated to be honest.

 I am not a regular whiskey drinker. I did fall in love with Platt Valley Moonshine Whiskey. I bought a bottle when we were in the Virginia's . I kept it for a while and finally opened it to share. After tasting , I did not want to share.  If anyone from Virginia will be going to IZ , please make arrangements with me to smuggle a couple bottles. I have been Unable to find it locally.

Their website says to contact their WI distributor to see about any stores in your state that carry their product, might be worth a call just for the heck of it:

But I played spin the bottle several times.  (but it wasn't a whiskey bottle)

This lottery is just a way to over price a bottle of whiskey.    it becomes more about the scarcity than the quality.

Put a shot of Evan Williams, Bulleit and Pappy in front of most of us and we may be surprised at which we choose to have as a double.

Never got to try any Pappy but there is lots of available/reasonable yet good quality whiskey out there. I'd add Knob Creek single barrel and Elijah Craig barrel proof among others to your list.
