Was with my 43 yr old son last night.   He is buying a new Harley at Harley dealer in College Station, Texas.    I said “ Where is it”.   He said “Still at the dealer.   They have the engine completely torn apart back in the service dept”.  My response was “Do what?   Why?”    He said “getting a ‘Stage 5 kit’ put in it”

Geez…..says it is going to have around 185 hp.   The boy is making way to much money.  He has a big mechanical air condtioning and heat company.    He paid $54,000 for his current Stage 4 Harley….no telling what this one is gonna cost.    Oh…..he is also going to keep the 2 yr old Stage 4 Harley.   He has 2 homes about 50 miles apart says he wants a bike at each location so when he gets the urge he can get on a bike and take a ride.    Manoman…….must be nice…..

I can't knock anyone who runs a successful "legal" business and I congratulate him on it.

I wouldn't waste my hard-earned money on an HD but, it's still a free country.

Getting into the wind is important but the wind isn't nearly as noticeable when you have to push the bike home.  Wink

I applaud his success, but I would not waste my money on an HD as well.  Been there, done that and regretted it.  And this was back when I only paid $3200 for my brand new FXE back in '77.  what a pile of crap.

He does work all the time.  His phone is ringing constantly……all day and some of the night.   He does jobs all over the south US.  I cant carry on a conversation on the phone with him as he has to “take this call”.   I am a retired electrician….no doubt I coulda gone into the business and done great but I worked for the same company 39 yrs and they treated me well and payed me well and I liked working 8 hr days and off weekends.   My wife was a RN nurse and we did ok financially.  I just didnt have the drive to do it.  I have enjoyed my life.

I used to be like that, always taking other calls and cutting folks I cared about off so I could take that "potential" business call.   Almost lost a couple of friends over it.   Now, if I get another call while I'm on the phone, I'll let it go to my voice mail and call that caller back when I'm done with my first conversation is concluded.   I have friends who do the same to me but, now with caller ID it's pretty easy to know when to interrupt one conversation for another.   There's always that call back option.

I have a friend that put a big S&S motor in a brand new HD. Wasn’t bad enough. Added a turbo. They told him he needed to up grade the transmission. He told them he’ll replace it with a Baker when it blows. 2 month’s later he was purchasing a Bake 6 speed. He has $20,000 into the motor before for turbo and tranny. Can’t hide money.

good for him let him blow his money sounds like both of my neighbors beside me.  One retired with rich kid age 40 in military pretty high up and the other owns his 'daddy's' inherited insurance company locally in town whom I got a quote from once on autos/house/cycles and was over double the premium price - OUCH!  NO wonder why he can afford 20K in 2 new ATV's and 30K on a new Polaris RAZR 4 seater 1000cc turbo plus a nice every weekend vacation log house up north bigger than his own house next to me.  The other retired couple with rich kid bought a new 25K Honda Pioneer 1000cc UTV.  Here I sit with ALL my toys (boats, cycles, ATV, trailers) all 10-20+ years old valued at total of 25K...... 2funny

I do not like to put all my eggs in one basket see no valid reason to spend on ONLY ONE toy over 20K.  That retired neighbor some 15 years ago bought his 2003 HD big bagger am guessing 13K+ and know he spent another 10K and more on it in upgrades/repairs throughout the years before selling it few years ago I think for 8-9K.

I currently am looking at used UTV's and those things are thru the roof right now about 2K to purchase above what they are really worth due to shortages in that market as well just like autos not many out there used to buy.  Still, a new UTV is pushing 20K with what I want and used ones nearly identical under 5000 miles are going for at least 10K in good shape if not more like 13K, still too much for me to swallow on something I only would use 5-6x's per year.  I am shooting to find a 6-10 year UTV with under 5000 miles (preferred 3-4K) for that 9K mark for sure never over 10K.

As far as 'busy' people hanging up on you or cutting your phone conversation short,  my ex-neighbor did that to me all the time when he lived by me.  He would call me all the time asking questions on what I thought he should do and then get another incoming phone call and tell me ONLY 3-4 minutes after talking to him 'sorry, gotta go have to get this call'.    Annoyed the heck out of me why bother calling me in the first place?  Then when I did give him advice or my opinion on what he should do he would NEVER take it and then come back some 6 months later and say 'you were right, should have listened to you'.    uglystupid2

I've ridden one blower Valkyrie. It depends a lot on how much it's overdriven-the blower. I've heard around 125 to Maybe 150. I KNOW the one I rode was Way FASTER and Pulled HARDER than stock. I ran outa room on the backside of the motel at the first Asheville!  cooldude But it Still IS a RUSH I remember!  :coolsmiley:RIDE SAFE.

I remember about 15 years ago in Houston riding a 35000 dollar Harley CVO Electra Glide top,of the line bike at one of there demo days got caught on a freeway in 5 o clock traffic and my bike and another guys bike overheated and the group had to pull over and let the bikes cool off until we could complete the ride.  Never had that problem with my24  year old Valkyrie  standard.  Harley reliability just not there really.

My brother started as a carpenter after trade school in a large company worked his way to the top in 15 years then quit and started his own company built many houses in upstate NY before he started flipping house. I went with him when he walked into a HD dealership and picked out an HD. Told the guy he would be back in 2 hours have it ready and asked if they wanted a check or actual cash. I was riding with him a couple of months later when the spokes in his back tire stated letting loose. He almost went down. Imagine his face when his 20K HD back wheel was not covered under warranty (aftermarket). Best part of the story is he now owns an F6B and loves it. He owned the HD and F6B together for about a year and hardly rode the HD so he sold it.
