Was in a pawn shop yesterday that carries a lot of ammunition of all kinds.    There on the shelf that houses rifle shells….right next to 223 shells is a “224 Valkyrie” rifle shell.  Never seen those before.

The .224 has a significantly more spacious case than the 5.56 (.223). Its case capacity has 18.4 percent greater volume than the 5.56.  224 Valkyrie's greater case capacity means it holds more powder and is able to send a 75 grain bullet out of the muzzle at 3,000 fps.  It's parent case is the 6.8 SPC, but it's bullet will travel through an AR barrel.  Principally used in long range competition.

Like many other wildcats, performance is increased, and ammo cost is greatly increased.

It's a better deer cartridge than the .223, but still a ".22", so illegal for deer hunting in many states.
