10 years old router  ? That dinosaur needs to be replaced !!! That could certainly have something of your issues causing them for sure. I replace my router every 5-6 years (if not sooner) because WiFI keeps getting better - but to take advantage of that , you need it at both ends - router (access point) and device.

I wondered about the old router idea, I'll be taking the extender back later today and think I'll use the refund to invest in a new router, then see how work in the back bedroom. As for the TV's they're both a couple years old smart Samsungs.

FINALLY!  Was looking at routers in Best Buy after returning the extender when this young lady clerk comes up and said "you look confused."  Me..."that obvious, huh?" She asked and I told her my problem, then she asked how old the router was...maybe 10 yrs. old. She laughed and said "hey, that's great for the old dial-up connections." Then suggested before I spend any money on extenders or a mesh network, try a new router. "They're much more powerful these days, using an extender is really nothing more than a bandaid." So, bought a new router for $150 and got it installed a short time ago, since I'm not all that savy on such things it took longer than normal but it's finally up and running. Biggest issue was it kept telling me there's no internet connection. After going through and double checking everything...connections & power sources for both the modem & router, suddenly that light came on in the router. Also reset both units twice as well as the ROKU thingy on the bedroom TV. Now I have a sharper picture back there and so far no buffering. Didn't want to spend that much $$ but I guess I'm good for a few more years now.

If you want to check the speed of your connection, I use this program.

can't believe I didn't think of that..... I mean, my router is ~10 years old, but it was a SUPER high end model 10 years old....

hey I was right for once from previous post below routers not last forever if get 10 years outta them doing good in my experience.....

Try resetting the router, etc. by turning power button off and unplug, then plug back in and turn back on.  It might help, doubt it, but worth a shot.

sometimes, not often, that seems to help.  NO idea why but has worked a couple times.  Your router could be going bad though electronics do not last forever.  If you have Spectrum and is a Spectrum router,  just ask them for another router should be free to swap it out.  Only way to know though is if you 'hard wire' first with an ethernet cable.

I just replaced my 5-6year old Netgear R7000P with a Linksys MR9610 because it was getting pushed too hard by my high number of devices (something like 15-20 , maybe more) . If needed - I can add some mesh routers to extend the range.

Unfortunately - Roku's are one of those things that ONLY operate WiFI.

My biggest problem in hooking everything up and keeping it running was a memory issue; mine! I had moved the power cords around for both the modem and router due to a slightly shorter cord on the new router. Finally gave up last evening when it all seemed intermittent at best and decided to give it another shot early this morning. My phone quickly reminded me I had no internet and when I walked out to the LR, sure enough...everything was off. It was still a bit dark out and so when I flipped on the lights...bingo, everything turned on. I now have a slight headache from numerous forehead slaps...I had forgotten the two receptacles on that wall only have power on the bottom half when lights are off, the top half go dead when the lights are off. I knew that but forgot it when moving the power cords around and used a power strip that was plugged into the top half. Now the TV in the BR also works great...again.  uglystupid2 Great, now it's time for a stiff drink to celebrate...OJ rocks with a shot of Sierra Mist to add a little kick.  Wink

Ahhhhh yes, the good old "switched outlet" thing.

I have had them in places I have lived (rented or owned).  Had to mark them with one of those permanent markers.

In the house I built, there are switched outlets but the whole outlet is switched to minimize the above.

Only the one in the master bedroom is used frequently to turn on the bedside lamp.
