Just got a message that I can now get free credit monitoring from Experian for four years because of a delayed data breach settlement.

Just wondered if anyone else had anything similar.

The website is below.  It appears legit so.....   But still.

I was part of two past Fed G data breaches (military and USDVA).

They offered me free credit monitoring (with someone I can't remember) and I took it for a few months, then cancelled it.

It was millions of people breached.  I guess there is safety in numbers.

What I remember is if you didn't act to cancel, they started charging full price, after the freebe ran out.

Just like when my old cable co would give you free HBO for a few months, so I never took free HBO.

While the "auto" enrollment for future stuff conceded me, there is this in their message.

This service is free for you and provided as a Settlement benefit. You do not need to provide any payment information to enroll and you do not need to cancel the service when it ends. We encourage you to enroll today.

I will still add it to my calendar to make sure I am aware that it has needed.

Go and freeze your accounts at the various agencies.

DO NOT lose / forget any PIN numbers you are given.

Jess, I got MyIDCare from the breach.  It is still giving me info.  NO charges I can see on any of my checking/saving accounts.   Seems like a long time since it happened.

I suppose I could have left it going.  I just mistrust being monitored by anyone or anything, even with my consent.

I don't know why.   Roll Eyes
