If you have a Garmin GPS with Lifetime maps, City Navigator North America 2023.10 is now available.

I am downloading it now.  Will post any issues.

Information will also be available here if interested.

Mine is too old, told me on the last update it didn't have enough memory. I could probably put a card in it but it has an issue I don't like anyway. If I plug in either earbuds or the bike's speaker system, it kills the sound...no idea why. If I just use the unit's speaker...works fine but can't hear it when moving so looks like it might be time for a replacement. I've had it since before the first Paducah IZ so it has a few years and miles on it. I hate having to buy new stuff like that, why can't they fix it so it can be adaptable if it still works good?  Huh?

Thx.  Got my Zumo 665 and the wife's Nuvi uploaded yesterday.

For anybody needing an internal memory upgrade, I had my Zumo done last year by Shortronics at palmdr.com.  Also noticed a speaker problem and fixed it, and uploaded the latest map - unexpected. Did a good job, reasonable price, and quick.  He's out of office now until 3/21.

Will have to get my Zumos done 395 and 396
Always bring both on trips, 395 failed because of the 105 Temps
we were traveling in.
Got to hotel and laid it on AC and it came back.

I do the same.  I have a 665 and a 660 just in case.

I also carry my laptop with me.  Lets me modify the route "in-route" at a stop.  Only did that once on a group trip to Floria but....   It was nice to be able to make the changes and upload it to my device in about 15 minutes.

My LM50 started screwing up the last 2 times we used it and usually don't use it much at all. I guess it's time to invest in a new one. And no I'm not smartphone user though coming back from Houston a year ago we used a smartphone and the GPS and both failed for quite different reasons.

Don't turn it on during a solar storm, if you hear on the news there's a Northern Lights show coming.  I had 2 550's replaced by Garmin that were fried by the EMP from that.  Also it would lock up if I left it on when driving by the USAF satellite control "golf ball" on Smoky Hill in Aurora.  Same for the Street Pilot.  The third time it was fried Garmin couldn't replace it as it was EOL'd.  The 665 I replaced it with had a dimmer screen backlight - needs a good sunshade.  Also has different features but I got used to them.  Faster processor, more memory, holds more MP3's.  I don't recall if the 550 supported SD card; the 665 does.  However doesn't use them for the map.  Hence the memory upgrade needed.

You can get the 665 to load all of the maps on the SD card just requires some work.

Different for the 550 which requires using the SD card and change file extensions.

I had my 665 upgraded to 16GB by Palm DR.  I have no issues loading the maps on the 660 (has a little more free memory)

Regarding the 550, more information here if you would like

The cloning process I use for my 550 is in post #13 at the link below.  Its simple but takes a little time.

My Zumo396 came with 16 GB.  Good thing because I can't use an SD card with it (feature is broken).
My Nuvi 2597 (8GB) and my Drive 50's (4 or 8GB, don't remember), all require using SD cards to get the latest maps. My sister is using my Nuvi 50 LM - also requires SD card.

All the automotives work transparently with SD (the 2597 needs to access the sd in a non-drive mode).

I couldn't get the steps to work with my 665.  Those steps on the zumouserforums.  I tried several permutations then said I'm just gonna bite the bullet, upgrade the memory & be done with it.  Should be some time before they grow the dB too big for 16gb - if ever.  As I said the 550 is exceptionally sensitive to wayward external EMP pulses.  Blew out several of them, always after there was a significant solar storm.  Surprised yours still works.  Not to mention the signals the AF puts out controlling their satellites, here.  The 665 doesn't care.  The Street Pilot also was affected.  Such that I wired in an external battery disconnect switch so I wouldn't have to open it and pull the battery to reboot it if I forgot to shut it down past the golf ball antenna on Smoky Hill.

I have had the Palm Dr. upgrade by 665 and re-do the screen and buttons on my 550.  Excellent work.  Good turnaround.
