Greetings All,

I recently did a clutch master cylinder rebuild, and also swapped the master cylinder with a tourer model (to eliminate the speaker control mount, which has been permamently removed).  The clutch has an aftermarket  braided cable line.  Bike sat for a bit and was long overdue for cluthch fluid change.

Took bike to dealer for two new tires and upon riding home I noticed a slip when the  bike got warm upon quick open throttle.

Took back to dealer.  They noted that there was zero play in the clutch lever, where there should be a bit of play.  They insisted on a rebuild of both master and slave cylinder.  Cold test  - perfect.  No slip

When warm, clutch again disengaged immediately on the slightest depression of clutch lever.  Even when cold, no play on lever.  I noted that the reservoir appeared to be overfilled (by dealer) so I drained some fluid (vacuum) until the master cyclinder line read slightly below the fill mark.  Did not take master cylinder lid off.  This immediately restored the bit of play in the lever.

Took for test ride.  Warm San Diego day.  Ran perfect for about 20 min and then as bike (and fluid) got hot I lost play in the lever and symptoms returned - clutch disengages when throttle is opened suddenly.

Only part that has not been replaced is the clutch line, which I just ordered.

Bike mileage 32500 - easy miles.

Thoughts?

TIA
Mike

Doubt very much it's your line leading to the slave cylinder. I'm with Rob...what oil are you using? Does it have friction modifiers in it and if so you need to get it out, run some good oil for a couple 100 miles and change again, might need a couple more changes depending on how long it's been in there. That type of oil will make your clutch slip, sometimes chatter, upon engagement. At only 32k miles there shouldn't be any issues with the clutch yet.

Why didn’t you just take the cover off the M/C and if there was too much oil just scoop some out?  Using a vacuum doesn’t sound optimal.

The other elephant in the room is...did they do the rear end maintenance right?  Did they detail what was done to service the drive train?  Problems happen when one goes two sets of tires without proper grease.

So, they rebuilt the MC and didn't change the clutch operation? Did they bother to make sure the bleed hole at the bottom of the reservoir is not blocked by debris?

Thanks for replies.  Just changed
Oil and used Mobil 1 motorcycle oil.
Bleeder hole was open at dealer when
We originally took cap off to
Inspect.

I agree regarding bleeder hole as potebtial  cause
But would explain the play in lever when cold
And no play when fluid gets
Warm, just expansion?  Do you all have that lever
Get tight or do you always have a bit of play regardless
Of temp?
I will change oil again after a few rides.

Thanks in advance for all the thoughts.

Final drive oil and rear brakes were serviced
At same time. What's your thought here?

Much appreciated.

My thoughts are the last two Valkyrie’s I bought and then sold were in need of fixing multiple screw ups that a dealer did
