semi-retired.....finally decided I'd had enough of working at my old job and decided I might be more happy just doing my side tractor business a little more....spent last Thursday and Friday getting a trench dug so he can power up his new Dragon Shed......and also got to cut up and move some downed trees for them that had fallen on their pasture fences...Mike did the most of the heavy work....but I was a lil sore after taking a month off then diving right into a trenching job.......that one month off was the most time I've ever not worked in 52 years ..... Cheesy Cheesy

Not just the shed, but also a circuit over to where Carolyn can
charge her car...

Thanks Stanley!  cooldude

Congratulations Stan.  cooldude

The trench from my house to my sheds was shorter, but I did it with shovels (and an axe for the hard clay).  I don't care to do that kind of work anymore.   Grin

Don't forget GFCI in the shed (first plug in the circuit).  And put more plugs in than you think you'll need.

And the overhead fan in my bike shed is marvelous in the summer.   For heat and the buggies.

Too bad you're not closer to me, I could keep you busy doing lots of stuff out on my rural land!

Nice work!!

Congrats Stanley on the semi retirement.  When I retired I kept startling the wife when I would open the door to walk into the house during the day.  Grin  Here in Fl. I just dig those ditches with a shovel but we don't have clay and rocks close to the surface.  Recently added a whole house generator and in doing so I was amazed at the number of pipes for water and electric that I found that I had forgotten about over the years.  Good thing I didn't have a machine or would have been repairing a lot of them.

Mike did the most of the heavy work.

Here in Fl. I just dig those ditches with a shovel but we don't have clay and rocks close to the surface.

Stanley did plenty of hard work... he went out there at 7:00am both mornings and cleaned out the
bottom of the trenches and stuff, I didn't waddle up there until about 9:00...

When we came to this rock that his machine wouldn't reasonably move, I chipped a groove in it
with a digging bar...

One other pointer from my past experience.

My prior owner left a lot of bricks and rocks and scrap pressure treat laying all over the place.

So after digging and laying my in ground quality cable, I gently laid as much of that crap as I could over the cable, to get rid of it, and to provide some safety if I lose my mind in old age and start digging where I shouldn't.

I also laid a phone cable in there and stuck a landline phone in the shed, but that cable died in short order.  And it was stupid anyway as my cordless work like a champ anywhere on the property.  (I have no cell phone)

We filled the trench halfway in and added a three-inch wide red plastic
WARNING tape in there.

(I have no cell phone)

We're planning to mash one in to your cold dead hands after you are gone  cooldude

Did you use conduit?

I didn't, just the heavy duty in ground rated cable.  (no issues in 27yrs or so)

I did use PVC conduit where it comes up to surface and attaches to the shed wall, and as I jumpered it to the shed next to it.  (places it can get kicked or hit with things)

I have nothing against cell phones, it's just I've never needed one or wanted to pay for the phone or service.

The one time I lost my rear wheel bearing in Bomfok West VA, there was no cell service anyway.   Grin

I do kind of feel left out in group rides, when at stops EVERYONE else get on theirs and checks email or news or stock options and portfolios or Craigslist personals.   Grin

True, but if that tractor was green, he wouldn't have already paid it off... Wink

Did you use conduit?

I was going to, but I got USE-2 grade direct burial and it
made the (hard) job a lot easier... I got some conduit and
ran the wire through it in a couple of places, like that groove
in the rock in the picture above. And some elbows and stuff
where it comes out of the ground...

Good question... perhaps I'll start working on that.
