Heck, I've been tinkering with routes for a month or two now...

Depending on many factors, toying with the idea of shooting up to Glacier National Park, and if freedom has been restored to our northern neighbors maybe hopping across the border for a little run so Serk Jr. can be the first triplet to have traveled internationally...

Or maybe cut back west. Or east. Or who knows.....

But it sure if sun playing with maps and dreaming!

when the time comes,  please post dozens of pics on scenery/places seen.  On my bucket list to get out to Utah and Colorado before passing, but might have to wait awhile for hip surgery maybe this year?  Cry

Meeting with surgeon on Tuesday to see if I am too young and see if he will do it?  New left hip only lasts apparently 25-30 years but doubt I will make it much past 80 years old so not much worries there?  Right hip is bad but not as bad as left hip preventing me daily to not bend all the way down well without holding onto something and going up steps sucks having to hold onto railing and can walk 1-3 miles but that 4-6 miles per day is nearly impossible, as well as riding cycles sorta sucks for any distance.  Standing for say over 30 minutes at one time is nearly impossible as well luckily I do not have a job anymore requiring walking most of the day or standing on my feet long time.  Xrays show my left ball socket (and right hip also but not as bad) is oblong not really fully round as should be so when I bend over, etc. the bone hits bone am sure in the socket and sorta locks up and hurts/grinds/makes funny noises I can hear daily. VERY odd has been fine prior to age 50 but once age 50 hit,  all heck broke loose on me.  I also have pretty severe athritis in the joints for being somewhat young.    I checked for waste of time and money cortisone/steroid shots or plasma joint shots and each shot is between 800 and 1200 bucks I would have to pay in full and not last over 6 months vs. surgery out of pocket will be 4-5K total.    One and done I hope with surgery, but bet Dr. will say NO must loose weight or try other less extreme means, but living a mediocre life sorta sucks with no full range of motion and clumsier walking around now.

Britman,
If you write all that on a post-it note to tape to the windscreen, will you be able to read it?  Huh?

Seems I recall photos showing directions in a tank bag and on a windshield. I was just kind of poking fun at the length of it. With his experience I'm sure it works well for him. I've had some success doing that for half day trips that involved lots of turns. Multiple sheets (one or two each day) why not? Like your blue line it doesn't need a mobile internet connection.  cooldude

I used my nav with an earbud in once and mentioned to you that I don't need to see a screen... she tells me where my turns are... You replied "that sounds awful"  2funny

I can see how that paired with a decent map could avoid the limitations/issues that come from electronic navigation. Lost/stolen/broken device, dead battery, you can still get there from here  Wink

I carry state maps for where I'm going to be riding.

And a handlebar mounted compass. I've had some fun riding from a SW'erly point to another point a 100 miles away to the NE by just using a compass. Those that say they use the sun have a skill I don't. Around the high point of the sun it's hard to tell which way is east or west especially if one is meandering through wooded roads.

Wow, don't know that I'd be able to follow a compass only, unless I was where I could afford to get lost. I could see making a few 90 degree turns trying to figure time/distance from intended direction and then stopping to figure out where I actually ended up. Cheesy

I had to dig out my external back up hard drive to copy some music onto the new SD card in my phone. Old one decided it didn't exist anymore. Grrrr.

Anyway, saw an old ride report from June 2012 when I rode to the CA Pacific coast and in the report it mentioned hwy 72 east from Raton as "beautiful" so 10 years on I'm going to incorporate that into my homeward leg.

And so it goes, ever changing.
