Its amazing the engines manufacturers are making today. We used to work like crazy to get more from engines and now the car companies do it. And they get good fuel mileage. Amazing.

It is truly amazing. I hate to say it though, if they ever get batteries and charging technology under control, this kind of performance could be achieved at much lower complexity and cost.
I wonder what the manufacturing cost of this engine is.

Old time dirt track and sometime 1/4 mile thing. Dark arts it were! Had way more "stuff" that did NOT work as opposed to the little that DID work! Old Yamaha 2 stroke rotary valve-should Not cut more than say 175 degrees or so! Power these days available off the showroom floor IFFIN yer pockets Are DEEP enough! RIDE SAFE.

I was born in a Studebaker parts room and brought up with Stude and Ford. However Plymouth paid me to race for them. I told my grandfather and father if Ford paid me I race for them.
We were near Watkins Glen so I was a road race { Cobra and Mustang] and drag race [Plymouth ] guy.

Yep. Electric is a better powerplant for vehicles. And they are making progress with them. It worked good 110 or so years ago too. Chevy crate engines are fairly inexpensive. I don't know which or how new they are selling now though. So I don't know how much that engine costs. Considering how good the new Corvettes are the cost is reasonable when compared to other comparable vehicles.

I doubt the actual manufacturing is much more expensive. But the R & D cost has to be accounted for somewhere.

Since we are talking about factory HP,
Chrysler has had a 800 HP Charger out for a few years.
Ford has had a 1000 HP Mustang since 2019.
GM had to keep up.

If my memory serves me right, Yamaha had "reed valves" incorporated in the carb intake and Kawasaki used the "rotary valve" induction from the right side of the crankcase. I believe in 74' they introduced a normal piston/port 250cc. and the RV 350 Bighorn as the 175cc was their largest up to that point. The Yamaha 500 in the day was a total beast. Sorry you triggered some of my favorite memories of my younger days.

Tween the valve and the expansion chamber and keeping the revs "on the pipe" had way more FUN sometimes than the law allowed. First TRUE purpose built motocross bike I got to ride was a 238 Kawasaki a friend of mine bought. The Kaw at that time was a Truly Amazing ride!! First M/C that Scared the chit outa me on the road? Another Kaw-the 500 CC triple! THAT beasty Would wheely Anytime and Anywhere! :coolsmiley:RIDE SAFE.

I worked on this project for about a year before I left GM. Back then we were building the paper engine, getting the design down before starting prototype builds. This is only one in a series of engines we were designing. Back then(7 years ago) we had designed an engine with hp north of 900hp. From a calibration stand point, which is what I did, these engines would be a nightmare. Basically anything with dual throttle bodies you treat as independent from each other…ie twin 4 cylinders in this case. The key is synchronization. We didn’t even have controllers or software to run an engine like that yet. Ordinary people would be dumbfounded if they knew the engineering effort that goes into something like this.

Binkie's statement "Ordinary people would be dumbfounded if they knew the engineering effort that goes into something like this." brought to mind GM's recent commercial touting their hands free driving technology. It made me think I wonder what the engineers that developed this will think when they see the commercial and realize that evidently, the feature was developed so that millenials could play paddy cake when they drive.

One of the strangest things you see are some new engines have the turbos and cats in the top center of the engine. What would normally be the intake manifold and the air intake on the sides of the engine. So when you lift the engine cover you see turbos not intakes.

Under the hood of a Mercedes,GTS, that on top of the engine is the turbos.

my 1968 Firebird has a 455 c.i. bored to a 471 with ?Edelbrock aluminum heads cams and pistons supposed to be 600hp and then a 150 hp Nitrous set-up--built it up for my son who had no interest-none of his friends were into it--the shifter got stuck in no-mans land and it sits for some 10 years in the garage--it really needs a 5 speed , disc brakes and a modern suspension..maybe this spring I'll getter going again-hate to cage it..it really is a ground pounder--21st Century Muscle car in Addison Tx has packages for most any car-fun website anyway-they did my cams and headers for My Z06-it gets a bit scary on a 70-110 mph blast-the new tires are a hard compound and spin a bit..
