Idaho??

Ocala/Daytona Fl

« on: February 27, 2022, 11:21:17 AM »

Out running errands yesterday on the Valk. Stopped for a few minutes and when I pushed  the starter there was a popping sound. She fired right up. Shut it off and tried it again, same noise, can't describe it, sort of like a low pitch ping. I didn't come from the carbs.

Rode home shut it off and stared it up no noise. Took her for a brief spin this am no noise. It was very hot and I was in traffic yesterday. 85 degrees.

Plan on taking her to Daytona next weekend and don't want a problem. Can take the B if I have too. Anyone ever heard anything like this?

Check the ground to the battery and the frame.

Thanks, makes sense I did think it was electrical. Had that popping sound when something shorts out.

I almost guarantee it’s the wires connected to the starting solenoid behind the right side cover. The next time it could blow apart and not start

Thanks, I will take a look at it when I get home from work tomorrow.

Look into the electrical under the right side, cleaned and coated all connections with dialectic grease. Check all wires and cables for damage and everything looks fine. Some of the connections were dirty and some had a small amount of corrosion.

Still debating on taking it or the B to bike week.

Specifically I’m talking about the red connector on the back of this guy.

Mine exploded so I direct wired it. It’s a common problem

I looked at those connections, they looked new.  I cleaned the whole area around it. So when you direct wired you just eliminated the connectors?  I will keep an eye on it but I assume when it goes there isn't much of a warning.

Did you check grounds and battery connection. If you come to Daytona and have any problems, text me and I’ll help out with whatever I can. I live in Ormond Beach. Jim 386-679-4037.

Thank You sir, I Was there this weekend and will be back next weekend and part of the following week. My wife and I have a small condo on Oakridge Blvd in Daytona!

I did check and clean all of the connections I could then coated them with dialectic grease. Checked the battery connection and the ground to the frame. Everything seems find, haven't heard the noise again and drove about 300 miles this weekend. I will be on my "B" this coming weekend.
