Exhaust gaskets

I've seen two types of exhaust header-to-cylinder gaskets:  copper gaskets with a circular cross-section, and other (aluminum?) with a square cross-section.  Any preference?

I've used them both with no detectable difference. They both crush. I thought that the round ones were a bit harder to remove than the others, but it could have been a lack of caffeine in me that one day.

I like the OEM copper rings and didn't like the fiber ones the one time I tried them...

Copper variety has been used since Honda hitting the shores in the 60's. Never knew or seen another variant on all metric's brands over the years. I use touch of high heat (red) silicone to assist in mounting.

And while it is recommended to change gaskets every time the pipes are off, the round copper ones will usually hold a good seal even if the (same) pipes are on and off several times.

Hope all is well for you out in Southern California.

I've only used copper Honda gaskets, and when using the same exhaust I have not replaced them with no issues of leaks.
