Thank T.P. for keeping Pat's legacy alive and the reminder of what we need to do to keep ourselves healthy as we age. It's rather sobering to read the original post you linked to see how many members of this fine group that posted condolences are no longer with us.  Cry I guess a lot changes in 10 years.

question:  My wife recently had a colonoscopy and is considered preventive maintenance so insurance should cover it 100% right most likely?  Well,  I found out that the procedure was covered 100% ONLY if they find no polops and are clear.  My wife had a one very tiny polop removed and insurance did not cover that since found something and got a bill for 350 bucks to remove it.

Is that normal?  Basically saying if clear no problems, covered 100%, but if anything abnormal found, then that part not covered by insurance.  I would dislike getting the colonoscopy done and they find say 6 polops and get a bill for 2 grand to remove them all when IMO it should be 100% covered to begin with as 'preventive' maintenance.

Same way for my LDL/cholesterol bloodwork at 150 bucks not covered during a yearly routine physical exam.   Clinic can bill it out as covered under routine physical exam, but they said since I have a 'condition' of higher cholesterol (think they called it hypertension?) that portion of the bloodwork is not covered during a routine exam.  Now, my wife just had her LDL/cholesterol levels checked at SAME clinic for yearly exam, different Dr., so will see if they cover her bloodwork 100%.  If they do,  I am not paying the 150 bucks.

I called my insurance up on the bloodwork and they said the clinic can re-code the portion of the bloodwork for the cholesterol part and can be covered 100% by resubmitting that portion thru my insurance.

Yep. Same happened to me 10 yrs ago. I had a couple of polops with pre-cancerous cells. Cost me over $1000. It also set me up to have one every 5 years. So far no more polops so everything paid for.

My date to ride the metal snake is now set..... A promise made long ago to a friend now departed will be fulfilled on July 26th.....

Git r' done!

(And honestly... I probably wouldn't have done this if I hadn't promised Pat that I'd do it, but... a promise is a promise, so off I go!)

When I told the nurse why I was doing it, the promise I'd made, she started crying.....

...her father is stage 4 colon cancer....

She praised Pat's plea and wished more would listen to his wisdom.....

yah,  I am doing the colonoscopy as well later this year 1st time age 52, not scheduled yet but have an appt. July 11th with surgeon going to do it since booked up thru December normally.  I had diverticulitis (ruptured colon) in May with 4 days in hospital and luckily was o.k. but seeing as how I had at the time 'issues' going no. 2 being clogged, etc.,  time to see what is going on down there.  She said she can work me into her schedule well before December seeing as how I have an existing condition both elective surgery and colonoscopy.

The appt. is for an elective surgery to remove a few inches of my colon that ruptured since sounds like 50% chance it might rupture again in the same place sometime in the future with weak colon walls now.  I will see what the Dr. says on Monday but since I hit my out of pocket max. with this insurance this year,  surgery will be free I think so might as well get er dun as well.  Wish I could also get my 2 hips replaced this year but loosing 30lbs. required by hip DR. to get my BMI under 40 is not going well.  I lost 5lbs. but 30lbs. is a TON for me.   Be nice to save that deductible all over again and get all my surgeries done this year but not looking like it.

Good luck, hope it all goes well!

(I didn't say anything, but thought "Hit Me With your Best Shot" wasn't the best song to be playing as I was being put under.....)

I was informed while there it's not 50 anymore, now if you have no family history you're 'sposed to have your first time to ride the metal snake at 45, and 40 if you've got a family history.....

Oh well, I made it to 50, and came out clean, so all's well that ends well... in the end... Wink

(All the funny stories you've read about the prep procedure btw, they're true.... All of them... Put a seatbelt on your toilet, you'll thank me later!)

well at least I should get cleaned out since lately seems to be plugged up more than normal.  With my diverticulitis episode in May luckily I could get in ASAP since normally was booked up to do the task until December if colon was normal.

yahhhh,  clean bill of health gotta go back 10 years from now do it all over again.  shockingly was clear even the diverticulitis colon rupture surgeon said was not an issue which is what I was worried about.

Had a VERY nice nap for about 4 hours today best RESTING sleep I have had in a long time.

Yah,  drinking that 1 gallon jug from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. last night was a chore for sure and ONLY went thru  4 different pairs of undies since could not make it there quick enough, especially this morning from 7-9 a.m. drinking the other 1/4th of the mixture.  Drinking it cold with lemon flavor they gave me helped, but last night after 9 p.m. that last 16 oz. or so was VERY VERY tough to swallow had enough.  NO farting, but a ton of burping and LONG sit downs sipping that stuff was a workout in itself.   Pretty much unable to do anything from 7-10 p.m. last night with any long duration kept going and going to poddy every 10-20 minutes.

Procedure was VERY easy highly recommend getting it done and if goes well,  only have to go back every 10 years will deal with it again age 62...

My Doc prescribes me SUPREX.  Two small bottles that I add 16oz of water to.  I chug it down in 2 giant swigs.  Then I drink clear, no sodium chicken bullion all evening(32oz) and then do it again 5 hours before the procedure.  Don't have to drink gallons. and the clear broth is a lot easier to drink than plain water for me.

5 Polyps the 1st time, a year later had none, 3 years later had one small one.  Was told 4 - 5 years to come back, I said see you in 3.

This is the easiest most preventable.  Please do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doctor told me after a dozen years it's time.  Did it Wednesday (two days ago).  They gave me pictures of what it looks like behind my asshole.  It looks brand new in there.  I guess mine is all external.  Don't know what I'm going to do with the pics.  Doesn't seem quite right to frame them and hang them on the office walls.  Okay, I'm still an asshole but it appears I'm a clean asshole.

They've really gotten good with the stuff to put one under.  I didn't have any awareness of going under or coming out.  Additionally, just a half hour out of the procedure I was ready to drive.  Mama took my keys.  Last time took me multiple hours.  I was very hungry afterwards.  It was apparently a double cheat day for my intake.  I failed the morning glucose check the next day.

Hmmm... Maybe in the spirit of the P.A.M. forum we could have a new forum dedicated to members posting photos of the inside of their assholes?
