When you loosen the rear case cover for removal, I realize it involves removing the clutch. However, what I need to know is...can the cover be loosened at all without removing the clutch? My question comes from the results of a post on my Reverse Wing post and a broken gear that sits just inside the cover(see picture). If there's any chance I can get to that gear(reverse idle gear) without removing everything I'd sure like to know. Read my recent addition to the Reverse post for an explanation and parts blowup diagram. The gear in question has a red arrow pointing to it. In any case, I'd have to remove the spring apparatus seen below and to the right of the starter hole, that's part of the reverse engagement system.

Out of curiosity I went online this evening to find the cost of repairs and on Ebay found one listing for the idle gear for $99.99 or best offer, so I offered $85 and they took it. It's over $90 elsewhere at the dealers I checked. Also found the clutch cover gasket for $11.60, over $16 at the dealers. I guess I'm committed now. Now I'm curious and looking for opinions; the motor has about 68k on it and since I have to remove all that stuff anyway and the motor is sitting on my hydraulic table for easy access, should I rebuild the clutch while I'm in there? This entire situation probably means I won't have the motor swapped out in time for the trip to Billings which is ok, it ran fine last summer during nearly a 3k mile trip which included Inzane.

Well if you have to do a clutch, on the bench is the best place.

John.

Paul Paulson on the Southern Valkyrie Riders Facebook page is asking" if anyone has any interest in a
Valkyrie engine with reverse and what would the value be? Thanks"

He further writes "this is a reverse from a Goldwing engine installed in a Valkyrie engine."

Geez Paul, where was he a month ago?  Wink I'll continue with the Wing motor conversion, I was on the verge of doing the swap when I discovered the cracked gear. With that repair I'll have to remove the clutch so I'll probably rebuild that while I'm at it. The trike will go to my daughter and husband eventually so at least he'll know what he has for a long time to come.

Did he mention what year motor the 'Wing reverse unit was from?

I guess one of these days I'll have to get on facebook.

If memory serves me there's no need to remove the clutch cover or the clutch to remove the rear engine cover if your goal is renewing broken reverse or reverse idler gears.
