So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: March 30, 2022, 06:42:33 AM »

My wife considers herself a connoisseur of the different coffees out there on the market, she's always finding different versions and flavors.   She mixes whatever with a creamier and a bit of sweetner.

Me, I like it strong/bold, can drink it just plain hot and black but prefer it slightly sweetened.  Although, I do like some Pecan flavored versions.    I don't think I've ever drank too strong coffee.   I'm sure it's possible.   I'll consume this source of caffeine until the first pot is gone and depending on other factors (Wx and what I need to get done), I may brew another pot just for me.  Yeah, it might be an addiction but, I like it.  Wink

Edited:  I've tried Starbucks a few times, not bad but, way overpriced.   Tongue
If I left a version off the options, please let me know.

Cheap.

And the spousal unit lives by it, goes through a pot or two a day. As for me I'm take it or leave it, I've gotten in the habit of starting the day with a cup, but I'm just fine if I don't either...

Been drinking Seattles Best #3/Portside blend for 22 yrs. I catch it on sale regularly enough @ $4 per 12 oz. bag so far. A couple weeks ago I stopped in at our local Barnes & Noble that has a Starbucks in it. They didn't have any Pike's roast made so they hand drip brewed me a grande cup. I was a walkin' & talkin' for awhile.  Grin Pretty damn good thus I went there again last week and they so graciously brewed another! I don't frequent SB's much anymore but when I'm out on the road its all I drink. Tried Copper Moon store, not as hardy and cost more.

Regular Starbucks tastes burnt to me.

They have a lot of variety in the kinds of bags they
$ell at the grocery store. Their "sumatran" is really good.

We get Seattle's best... I think Starbucks owns them...

I don’t care how many contaminates one puts in coffee to each their own. But a true coffee connoisseur wouldn’t flavor, whiten or sweeten. Just saying. Starbucks coffee needs to be sweetened and flavored because it’s such horrible coffee. JMO

My girl likes decaffeinated black, the brand is President's Choice (loblaws). I like real coffee (again, PC) w' 1 sweetener in the morning, but none after 4 o'clock, won't sleep later.

When we're out for a drive, we do the drive thru at Tim Horton's, she gets their Dark Roast, I take their regular stuff.

As a former Navy guy ships and shore stations ALWAYS had a pot on somewhere. I had to make damn sure the 2 gallon coffee thermos was FULL for every flight. 4 man crew and 2 gal did Not last long.
Some of the truck stops I frequented had some decent coffee. A lot of em had paint remover. I've tried those flavored creamers and flavored coffees and really Not a fan. For a long time I carried 2 2 quart steel thermos bottles in the truck and kept them filled. Guess you could say I are a coffee hound.
Generally my pot is brewed with a medium dark Folgers. When I wanna go Strong Aldi has a Fair Trade dark roast I like once in awhile. First cup and sometimes last cup git sweetened by that Pure Raw Arkansas honey I keep on hand.
I have what is called a 14 cup brewer and my cups empty it with 4 full ones. I use ONLY the bronze filter that came with the pot. The restaurant I like and the micky Ds here have drinkable coffee. RIDE SAFE.

Knowing that you're one of the last of the "Big Spenders", I find that response hard to believe.   I've personally witnessed you going first class with alcoholic beverages.  Wink

That's because quality matters with such a refined and multi layered beverage as single malt scotch....

Ground up hot bean water? Meh.... Folgers in the big can from CostCo for the pot and Wal Mart Great Value Brand "Donut Shop" variety pods for the Keurig tastes the same as Kopi luwak coffee as far as I'm concerned...

I buy and drink this every day forever.  It's a dark fine ground Colombian, and I need no better.  But only in the morning.  Never later.

I eat few sweets, but take my coffee sweet and creamy.

I avoid old coffee on the burner (for God knows how long) in convenience stores when riding, because an overwhelming need to defecate (right now) while riding is not my idea of a good time.

I have have made urinating anywhere and anyplace an adventure my whole life, but draw the line at defecating behind some dumpster.  Or wiping with poison ivy.   Grin

One of life's simple pleasure, hot, black cup of coffee to start my day.
I'm not locked into any one brand of coffee. I find rotating brands on a regular basis keeps the taste buds guessing. Anything from 8 O'clock coffee to Seattle's Best, store brands and whatever else peaks my interest. I am fortunate to have a coffee shop that roasts their beans daily. That is a treat, prices range from $12 - $18 per lb. A pound gets me about 7 16oz mugs of coffee. So I don't buy it to often. I do a pour over style cup of coffee.
Winter time I sometimes will have a cup mid-day. Usually that is at the roasters shop and that's $2.25 for a 12oz cup made fresh. Dunkin Donuts is a coffee I will buy out also. They are up to $2.29 for a 12oz cup. I'm not a fan of SB's. I prefer to do biz with the locals.

Wondering if any of you remember and enjoyed McDonalds coffee from 25-30 years ago? It was an outstanding cup of coffee! Seems that the law suit was the end of their coffee. Haven't liked their coffee for years.

The more bitter the better.  (But not burnt, there is a difference.)  A Starbucks dark roast is nice and bitter, generally espresso too.  I lived for a few years in Europe and got use to the local stuff minus the sugar they normally pile in.

An acquired taste.

I never got used to Turkish coffee.

It's like a small cup of mud.  But doesn't taste as good.

Over there, I drank the tea.

I generally am not a coffee guy.

But...

Years and years ago we had a restaurant near Sioux City called Theo's.
A great steak house out in the country.

They had a coffee that was a "Presidential" roast by Ellis.

My Dad was really impressed by the coffee and asked what kind it was and they told us.
I had a cup and best coffee I ever had. To this day.

https://www.amazon.com/Ellis-Coffee-Company-Presidential-Single/dp/B07B47BSPT

Wife's got a Kurig coffee maker and they got the little cup things at amazon.

Don't drink much anyway. Haven't had a cup for months.

Oddly, had one this morning.

I'll put a squirt of caramel Ice cream topping in a cup.

Really good.

2-3 good size mugs in the morning and then I’m done with coffee for the day. I have to have a little sweetener just to take the edge off. I have given up on finding a “good” cup of coffee. No particular brand preferences but it obvious when I stumble upon a good cup.

I’m down to 12-18 cups a day now. Used to be 18-24 when I was working. Drink it all night, no problem. Usually Folger’s Colombian. But I like Starbucks French Roast better.

I get something called Victor Allen's Coffee at Menards. It's 100% Colombian Arabica and I use it in my Keurig, a cup in the morning and another mid-late afternoon. I used to be able to watch the late news while drinking a cup but around my mid-60's that suddenly turned on me so have only decaf after 7:00pm. Still take it straight black most of the time but some days will add a touch of creamer, found it's easier on the ole gizzard. Seems to be true for many things as the years pass.  Wink

We have a keurig I drink donut house light roast, Barbara drinks pretty much what’s on sale either at supermarket or at green mountain online. We add either light cream or half & half.

My dad has been drinking instant coffee forever…Folgers and I’ll be honest it’s not bad once you get your spoon size down.

Many years ago I used to make “Cuban coffee” which you take espresso and wait for it to perk about an ounce and pour that ounce into a glass measuring cup and add about 4-5 teaspoons of sugar. Then take a metal spoon and blend it together and make a paste of smooth sugar and slowly pour the rest of the coffee slowly so it makes a nice foam or froth on top and pour into espresso cups. Once you get the hang of making the paste and getting the froth it it’s a nice cup. I haven’t made it in years it really wasn’t to Barbara’s liking and to drink a pot myself is waayyy too much caffeine.

We have/had been using a Keurig coffee machine drinking Peets Dark Roast/French Roast and then the Peets decaf in the evening.  I have two cups in the morning.

Recently shifted to Black Rifle coffee and back to the old brewing machine (drip brewer????).  Black Rifle, Black Beard's Delight Dark Roast.  But we do have K-Cups for the road and take our Keurig brewing machine on the road along with the K-Cups.

We also tired Black Rifle's Freedom Roast.  It was good as well.

In the evening we each have Decaf, right now its Peets.

So, for me four caps a day, two in the morning and two in the evening.  Unless like today, we are on the road and have taken some time for other things.  By the time I finish my current cup of Decaf, it will be time for my nightly Makers Mark
