One is the son of long time family friends, he was in the hospital since January this year and passed this morning. He was a year older than my eldest so was about 65 and extremely overweight. The other person was the sister(in her middle 60's) of my oldest son-in-law...who was the husband of my oldest daughter that died from cancer 10 yrs. ago. Neither of them wanted anything to do with being vaccinated, whether that's the final chapter in their life is open to debate. I didn't try to change their minds, I simply suggested that as we age our bodies are less able to fight off or recover from disease, in both of these cases the most exercise either got was to/from the kitchen table. Kinda makes you think there is a link between healthy exercise/eating and the usual side benefit of a more healthy existence. Both will be missed.

We can only recommend or suggest to ones we know to get vaccinated, but is their decision to live or die by.  Unfortunately,  the 2nd scenario came up.

If I was older and/or in worse shape health wise,  I would 100% get the shots no doubt about it.   Seems like a no brainer to me.  My past 2 bosses both females in their 40's decent shape health wise, did not believe in the covid shots and refused to get them, their choice I guess.

Hey John, sincere condolences and sympathy to you and their families.

I know it’s easier said than done but dwelling on the “what ifs” in life serves no purpose other than making a difficult situation worse which can prolongs the pain and sorrow.

We all choose our own paths in life, take comfort in the fact they led their lives how they wanted.

Stay strong and be well.

My condolences John.
As Connie said, most of us have experienced similar losses.

On a side note, Moderna contacted us, they said that they were now agreed that those in the Research Group would be authorized to go ahead and get another booster when applicable if the person's medical authority (doctor) agreed.    With whatever booster the recipient wanted, it doesn't have to be the Moderna vaccine.   This is different from the booster previously administered.   Moderna required the first booster be done at their facility (controlled environment).    They simply said to stay in the study we simply needed to inform them of what and when.

We'll get ours when it's convenient.    Just got my first pneumonia shot (requires two vaccinations, a year apart) so, I'll wait a couple weeks after the pneumonia shot to get my second COVID booster.   Haven't decided which brand booster I'll get and apparently Moderna doesn't care either.

My condolences on your loss.

I’m retired and I have a machine shop in my back yard. I’ve been helping some Engineering students with a prototype and while I’m working on it I keep track of my time spent with hash marks on one of the drawings. I got up to 18 hours and suddenly realized, looking at the marks,
that’s how many folks I’ve known that are now dead from Covid.

I thought about marking up a T-shirt to sort of memorialize them and then had 2nd thoughts about that.

The folks I know that aren’t vaccinated, and refuse to consider it, are mostly in their mid/late 50s and have some quasi political beef about it. My brother offered our cousin $1k to get the vaccine but she won’t do it.

All I can hope for with them is that these new mutations get less and less severe.

Thanks for letting me vent.
