Got in 70 miles!

Over the past two days Really just running around locally but the wind kept blowing in very ominous clouds. Yesterday I went to Lexington Powersports after being told at Richmond Powersports that they didn’t have the technical experience to perform two recalls on my recent bike purchase. Both owned by the same person and both very large dealerships. So I go to the service department and request an appointment for the recall work ( airbag and ABS) and I tell the service writer (young female) and I get a lot of ummms and ahhhhs and then the common story we don’t work on bikes over 10 years old, which I knew was bogus for a factory issued service/safety recall. She went on to say that they had another location, Central Kentucky Motorsports that worked on “older” bikes and that would be the answer. Totally skeptical, but not too far away and not minding to extend my riding, off I went. As expected, they were a busy shop, and probably do good work but the service manager said they were not authorized to do recall work. I did find they are a dealer for a line of helmets I’m interested in and will be checking back with them on that front.

So back to Lexington Powersports and as luck would have it the same young lady is available. When I relate to her my findings she looks forelorn and wonders why they couldn’t help. I suggested that possibly because they weren’t an authorized Honda dealer and probably couldn’t even obtain the parts from Honda to do the job much less get paid. Her solution was to take my info and promise to pass it to so and so who is off that day but would be at work today and he has a mind boggling 8 years on the job and they would call me back today.


I don’t know who the owner is but he has a massive investment in this dealership which is a converted Walmart store but relates to a story that was told at last years Inzane, I don’t represent their desired demographic. I don’t have a new motorcycle and just walk in pitch them the keys and say fix it!

I am having a problem even getting an air filter locally even though the Richmond dealer ordered 3 last week and was sure they would be in this Wednesday, nope and the superstore in Lexington didn’t have any. But, they did tell me that a small independent dealer 50 miles away has one! Road-trip!

My 8' 6" Dodge ProMaster 2500 won't fit on most dealer lifts (well, it will fit on the lift, but it will hit the ceiling being lifted).

I have to go to special Truck Dodge dealers.

There are now 4 recalls on it.  There is a lot of web talk that 3 of the 4 have been causing other problems (all worse than what they are supposedly fixing).

Now I need to call the dealer service mgr and ask if I get my oil changed, can I only get one of the recalls done, or am I required to get them all done?  
My truck ain't broke.  Please don't break it.

My guess is that Honda is going to have to start building less reliable motorcycles so they don't last that 10 + years.................

The next time I goto  a dealership to get something done on my '98 Valk, and they tell me  "we don't work on motorcycles older than 10 years" - I'm going to grill them so f***** hard on WHY and WHAT HAS CHANGED in 24 (or whatever) years (because they can still get parts for them) ?

This is a crummy rule (and an abandonment of their own prouct), but the best reason is because they likley have no tech that has ever been trained or ever worked on one before. 

But they will try with a ball peen hammer and channel locks.
