With Kaelynn having gone on a road trip to California then flying home in January/December, and Serk Jr. riding to Mississippi via Florida a few weeks back and slated to ride to Montana and beyond in June, Blake's been feeling really left out lately and complained that he hasn't even left Texas this year. I did a little route planning and weather checking and hatched a plan. When he walked in the door from school at 4PM I told him "Would you like to ride the motorcycle to another state, have dinner in a casino and be back tonight? If we're doing it we have to leave in the next five minutes though!" (Because rush hour traffic would have made it impossible if we'd waited literally 5 minutes longer than we did.) "YESSSSSSSSSS!" So he quickly put his hair in a pony tail, geared up, and off we went.... Made the ~90 miles to the Indian Reservation casino in Oklahoma in good time, parked..... ...noticed the RIGHT UP FRONT motorcycle parking after parking out in the lot and walking up, but no worries, we needed to stretch our legs a bit anyway... A veritable smorgasbord of culinary choices were arrayed before us. He chose Taco Casa, after asking me a very important question. "When you took Kaelynn to Las Vegas, did SHE eat tacos in a casino?" "No" "Good, then Taco Casa, I can be the first triplet to eat tacos in a casino." Walked around the gaming floor a bit, let him look at the things and such. Kinda sad how quiet the casinos are these days, I miss the days when there was the CLANG CLANG CLANG of quarters hitting the metal bins. Now they just print you a paper receipt of your winnings to go cash in..... Meh... Didn't hang around long, quickly made our exit and pointed the bike back towards home... Made it home about 2 minutes after his bedtime (He was excited he got to stay up PAST BED TIME and NOT GET IN TROUBLE for it!) Anyway, typical daddy blabber... At least it's motorcycle related!

I was cautious about that, but I saw no signage about age requirements, and no one (Including multiple security personnel, bar tenders, or actual cops) batted an eye... I did make a point to keep us on the main walking path through, and not let him out of arm's reach or let him touch any machines. Which makes sense, you can't get to the hotel or the restaurants without going through the gaming floor, so...

I can remember my folks worked hard to make us kids all feel equal treatment and no favoritism.
But I suspect, from time to time, one or the other of us were NOT the favorite.
Like when I was left in charge (as oldest), and they came home to my sister holding my brother's ears and banging his head on the brick hearth, and I was LMAO.
The counseling I received is why I will always remember it.
PS: I never saw the inside of a casino until I was about 40.

I need to brush up on my geography, I had no idea you were that close to Oklahoma. Good that you could make this happen for him and yourself.

I had more than my share of "counseling" as well, often with what my big barrel-chested German dad called "applied psychology" when I was younger.

Whenever one of the triplets complain that something isn't fair, the response is "Fair is a four letter word." We try to keep things balanced, but don't keep exact score per se. Saw a casino for the first time at 15 when my dad and I took our crazy cross country trip that included Las Vegas. Went to Circus Circus, I wanted to go to the "Kid Arcade" (Video game arcade) and asked him for some quarters. My dad casually put a quarter in a slot machine, puller the arm, and proceeded to fill a cup with quarters, keeping a straight face through the whole thing. Handed me the cup of quarters and said "Have fun!" I replied "But.... I wanna play THAT one!!!!!" I need to brush up on my geography, I had no idea you were that close to Oklahoma. Yeah, while in polite country we generally avoid mentioning just how close the Dallas/Ft. Worth metromess is to Oklahoma...

Day to day was always fair. Punishment and reward for each was fair (the most important one).
But when any one of us did particularly well in school or doing something else, that kid got all the attention and cudo's, for awhile. That was fair too.

For as close to to casinos that we live (we have at least 3 within 10-15 miles of home) , you might find it strange that we have never set foot inside one.

Been to several, they're interesting places to see, but I haven't gambled a single cent in around 20 years... Nothing against it, I'll probably do it again at some point, just hasn't appealed to me lately...

*Glances at current inflation rate* I mean, even US Dollars hidden under your mattress are a gamble, so... Pick your poison... As far as GAMBLING gambling, that's what my crypto holdings are for... But I do enjoy the spectacle of a physical casino. I was tempted to plop down $100 on a single hand of Blackjack but I didn't know if they'd have a problem with me doing that with a 10 year old in tow. Funny story - When I was just dating my dear wife, we drove to Shreveport to do some gambling (That was before the Oklahoma Indian reservation casinos) I used to semi-regularly frequent the casinos, I had a technique, I would budget whatever amount I could lose to the entertainment of the casino and put it in my left pocket. All winnings went into my right pocket. When the left pocket was empty, I was done. My entertainment budget for this particular trip was $200. So we got there, and realized she had forgotten her ID, they wouldn't let her in. Told her to go wait in the car, I won't be long. Went to the first open Blackjack table, put my two $100 bills down, played a single hand, hit Blackjack, said "Thank you!" grabbed my $500 in chips, cashed out and walked out to the car. Other players at the table "Wait! You're on a streak! Let it ride!" "Nope.... I'm up, and I'm out. Good luck ya'll!"
