The primers on the grips have been hit by a firing pin, but the ones on the key haven't (though I've never seen white primers).

Very nice!

Kinda sad, my first thought was, wonder where I'd have more issues if I had those on my bike, trying to ride into Canada, or California.....  Cheesy

Canada for sure it would be a problem. Breaking no laws in CA so might as well cause PTSD amongst it's residents.

On a side note here's how bad Colorado has gotten.. twice now while riding and open carry I've been pulled over by State Patrol because they got a report there was a crazy guy riding down the road with a gun.

And technically I could have been charged with disturbing the peace.

nice looking grips.  How hard to install those Avon grips and where get at, etc?

My 98 Valk has the chrome/rubber cushioned grips and pretty tacky feeling when HOT out, getting pretty worn out, but still look nice from a distance.

I purchased them directly from Avon. I suggest looking up the number calling them and ordering from them.

The install was maybe a 4 out of 10 for difficulty. And the only reason it's a four is because you have to take apart the throttle assembly on the right handle and reconnect the cables. And you have to lift the front of the gas tank up to adjust the cables.

They look good!  cooldude

I had considered Avon grips, but the fitment chart only shows the 14-15 Valkyrie, not our fist gens.
http://avongrips-com.3dcartstores.com/Metric-Touring-Fitment-Chart-_c_209.html

According to their website, the throttle tube has multiple throttle cams that interchange so the same grip can work for multiple applications. So, does one of the supplied cams work A-OK with the Valkyrie cables/adjustments? Or did you need to customize anything to get them to work?

I'd appreciate any comments and/or part numbers used. Thanks.

About $50 delivered from ebay.  Search for "avon grips metric".

I have 97-03  Valkyrie bars on my 2014 Valkyrie. The 2014 controls fit
the 97-03 Valkyrie bars.

Everyone should remember the 1500 Valk has been out of production for 20 years.

Lots of aftermarket mfgrs and distributors aren't going to list parts for the Valk, whether they fit or not.

So not seeing Valks on any current parts listing does not necessarily mean they don't fit.

Understood, but wasn't sure. If I am not talking out of my rear section, didn't Kuryakyn have a special Iso-grip for the Valkyrie because of bar length or something of the sort? I was never 100% clear on what the difference between my 1" bars and the 1" bars on every other metric bike out there, but never looked deep into what Kuryakyn decided we needed vs. the others.

Yes, on the Kury ISO grips, the regualar/universals were 5 3/4" long, and the specials for Valk were 6 1/4".

(now this is from memory, so I might be off a bit, but I don't think so)

The thing was, with the Valk specials (longer) you had to drop a spacer in the grips before mounting, for stiffness, since they were longer than the bar ends; with the tops touching the controls.  Even though the Valk bars are long, the regular 5 3/4 grips were all that were necessary, up to the controls.  So it wasn't a bar length thing, it was a looks thing.

I did not need that long of grips, but what I liked was the throttle boss at the end on the right did not interfere with my hand on normal riding (which it will on std length grips).  When I wanted to use the boss, I slid my hand down to it.

What I didn't enjoy about the longer grips is the number of times I was working down low and bloodied the back of my head on them coming back up.  But I have done that so many times on so many different things, I'm used to it.  There was a section of overhang on my split level home (with tin corner trim, before the vinyl siding) I ripped my head so many times, I duct taped two of the wife's maxi pads over that edge.  That's where the front hose bib is.   Grin

I don't think they are an add on. The entire grip must be purchased.
