Christ first and always

Richmond, Kentucky

« on: May 09, 2022, 06:52:21 AM »

For me anyway. I had thought for weeks that I would crash the Dragon Weyr ride in Slade Kentucky this weekend. Since I only live 60 miles away I had made no overnight accommodations which would be fine since the ride over and back would be enjoyable too. As it turns out Rams and I had some swapping to do and it worked out that he would be at my house on Thursday and we agreed that when we got done wrenching on his trike that we would ride over.

Ron rolls in around 4:00 pm on Thursday and we start pulling off the seat (that was a real treat) the gas tank and the air box in preparation for installing a MCcruise cruise control setup on the trike. That’s as far as we got the first day. Not exactly starting at the crack of dawn, Mr. “I usually get up around 4:30” decided to sleep in, I won’t say what time it was when he appeared. Friday was a all day job routing the wiring harness through the frame. Dealing with extra wiring already installed on the bike and not knowing exactly what each was for slowed down the process some. Installing the vacuum actuator proved to be a challenge but Rams stepped in when I started getting a little weary. I don’t know if he used a BFH of what but it finally made inits resting spot with no pinch vacuum line. I think around 5 or 6 pm I called it a day and my hands looked like Serks description after he installed new led headlights on his ride.

This meant Slade was very questionable as there were still a lot of connections to be made and adjustments of cables and sensor clearances to be set, plus the air box and gas tank still had to be put back on. Even getting the seat to latch tried out patience a little bit but after adjusting and aligning the latch back up, it snapped into place. Imagine the shock and surprise when two jacklegs tore into a Valkyrie for almost two days with all the possible missteps that could entail, and in spite of all that, the Valkyrie fired right up!

Small victory, as now we had to take it out and see if the cruise control would actually work. I was confident it should work but with all the possible adjustment that can be made, did I make all the correct ones. I took the first test ride and it worked as advertised! Rams was next, and it worked for him too!

It’s 4:00pm on Saturday and misting rain. Rams says, you want to run over to Slade? Game on and off we went. I. Guessing we showed up around 5:00pm and I was somewhat surprised to see a great turn out of people of bikes and folks. Rams being the extrovert takes off meeting and greeting everybody that he sees and I do my usual loafing and listening in on conversations. We dropped in on DDT for a few minutes as we had communicated that I “might” see him this weekend. We got to see Mitch O doing what he does at so many gatherings, helping wrench on a bike.

By 7:00 pm we were back on the road towards Richmond as Rams had another big day on Sunday, having a small hauling job to do and then off to Memphis. So we got in about 120 miles and a couple of hours to socializing, a great way to cap off a very busy weekend.

Jacklegs?  Who you calling a Jackleg?    coolsmiley

I'll have everyone know, I'm the best tool handler out there.
I hand tools to the wrencher better than most and usually get it right after the second or third tool.  2funny

This, I will say.
John's better half (Judy) makes some dang good candy and it was a good weekend.
John and Judy are very gracious hosts and fine folks.    I guess I'll have to start calling John when I get up on normal mornings.  Evil

It was good to get to Slade and see everyone there.
