Hey guys!  I know that the original hondaline stuff is hard or impossible to find now, but I'm considering fabricating the bracket and acrylic components.

I'm hoping that there's someone out there that has one and can put a tape measure on the metal stuff for me to give me a general idea of how it's made so I can duplicate it.  Planning to fab from SS.

If there's enough time, I'll model it in a 3D modeling program and post here for others to make their own as well, and the processes.

I checked out motowings, but it doesn't look like he offers a fork deflector.  Sorry, my original post was way too fast, was trying to get it out in the middle of a work day.

I just got baker wings for my interstate and this morning (first ride) i'm getting blasted in the face by a new tornado coming up from the sides.  I would like to think that fork deflectors (using the mounting bolts for the brake line brackets) would solve the issue, unless there is another opinion out there.

I put on the bakers to reduce my moustache tips flying into my eyes while riding, thinking it would redirect the air flow, but I seem to have created a different problem.

These kind ?

If so, the bar is 10.5 inches wide and the two side bars are 4” long. It’s almost impossible to get an accurate measurement on the stepped mounting bars without removal though.

Here's some extra large ones (if this is what you are looking for)  New Zealand

@emperor:

Yes, that's exactly what I'm looking for.  I'm guessing that the only real mounting point here is the bolts that hold on the brake line brackets?  The jog should be easy enough to figure out, I think.  Do you find that this design of acrylic does a decent job of blocking the air flow from either side of the front of the tank?

@Jess:

That's a good link, but they're coming from New Zealand?  I can't figure out where that one is mounting though, it's not very clear.  Almost seems like it's a single mount point and I'm worried (probably for nothing) that it's going to try and rotate mid-flight.

I think they all mount to the underside of the triple tree, the horizontal bar does.  It's more than one bolt under there.

You might call Pinwall Cycle and see if they have any used.  Calling works better than paging though many pages (and I've had good service on the phone, and everything they have may not be posted).  And while they do auction, if they have one, they will sell at a buy it now price.

The plastic on all Valk OE air wings was very soft, and none of them stood up, and they all got scratches and scrapes, bugged and hazed.  But if you can find the hardware, you can cut your own plastic (making sure you don't make them so big they hit things swinging the bars lock to lock (and clear your Bakers).

One of my interstates came with the OE hardware, but home made plastic, which was not very well done (cutting curves nicely is tricky), but good enough for me.

The Pinwall (or other bike salvage) used plastic may suck, but the hardware is what you need.

The New Zealand fork wings are probably mounted the same as OE.  It's a sturdy mount, but I'm not sure the 2+ inches of vertical legs on each side is as strong as the OE's which are more like 4" vertical supports.  They're probably fine, except those deflectors are at least twice the size of OE.

Also, I can't comment on effectiveness; both my interstates have fairings with small wings on the bottom, and the fork wings (no bakers), and I'm fine with the wind protection.  No opinion on standards and tourers.

No, the mount points are not the brake line brackets but two threaded holes up under the lower triple tree. Thus why they have a couple doglegs in the brackets. As to their effectiveness, they block the under tank wind well. But to be honest I’ve never removed these to compare without. On my Standard I have a set of Memphis Lowers which work much the same. And I can attest to the difference without them.

Memphis Shades makes a fork mounting kit to fit, clamps around each fork and provides a mounting point for several of their wind deflectors. Deflectors come in clear or tinted, look like lexan.
Part number MEM9887 . The mounts alone are about 58 bucks, you could make your own deflectors, the mounts are the hard to come by part. Stainless steel bolts and CNC machined aluminum mount.
Found out about them after fabricating some from stainless steel u-bolts and lexan from Lowes. Theirs look a lot better than mine, LOL.
Good Luck !

I don’t think the Memphis mounts will work well with the I/S fairing.

I have some OEM deflectors for sale off my 1999 IS.  PM me for some pictures.  I let the SS deflectors go with the bike.

Not sure about working with an IS fairing, I have a standard with one of the Hoppe Valkyrie specific fairings and they match up like they were made for it. Will post pix soon as I get them loaded.

Clearview has the pattern to make the plastic deflectors.  They are thicker and the same quality as their windshields.  I originally sent one that they used for a pattern.  The bracket mounts to the 2 bolts that hold the headlight bracket on the bottom of the triple tree.  I believe the nuts are 12 mm.
