Surely fits their marketing paradigm as well.  Over-stocked; can't sell them at their current prices, and they can whine boo-hoo, poor us, you better get your order in as there's gonna be a shortage. Right.  Their senior customers are dying off and the millenials ain't buying overpriced under-engineered Harleys.

I was in a Hog dealer looking for some gloves.

Can I help you?

Yes, do you have any gloves without HD advertising all over them.

I doubt it.

I had a similar experience at one as well many years ago, before internet sales became a big thing. Bike shops/dealerships were few and far between in our area, HD was the only one relatively close. I’ll bet the YellowPages were still the main source of advertisement for businesses that’s how long ago it was.

Supply chain issues/problems would be a great excuse or reason if, it's the real issue and not slowing sales for the products.   Hard to know what the real truth is.
I suspect it may be a combination of the two.

I had a similar experience at one as well many years ago, before internet sales became a big thing. Bike shops/dealerships were few and far between in our area, HD was the only one relatively close. I’ll bet the Yellow Pages were still the main source of advertisement for businesses that’s how long ago it was.

Three things I cannot buy on the internet (unless I can find them in a store first to try on for actual true size/fit before ordering them) is gloves, helmets and boots.   (I've found I can trust Danner boots to be true sizing (every time)).  So, if I find any of those in a store that fit great, I often just buy them right there even though I could maybe find a better price on line later (but add shipping).  I have had to return things too many times to trust sizing on those three things (and I hate returns).  Too much bike gear is made in the Far East where sizing varies wildly (and usually smaller than advertised).

And store shopping, I have found sales and closeouts on gloves and helmets and jackets, that I couldn't get cheaper anywhere else.  Like a pair of $350 goretex Sidi riding boots in a perfect fit 9 (though I wear an 8.5E true size boot) for $125.

Now MotorcycleGear.com in TX talks actual sizing in notes to almost everything they sell which is pretty accurate... but still.  https://www.motorcyclegear.com/
