Some Things Bear Repeating…

Of course, some things don’t… some even most definitely don’t! For example, Big Wolf, Jerry, once drove me from his place in Rickman, TN, to Montgomery, AL, for a doctor’s appointment of mine. It had been raining, was forecast to continue, and I’d been unable to rent a car… A really nice gesture on his part… only… It turned out my appointment had been rescheduled for another time, but I’d failed to correct my calendar! A busted trip, but he took it all in stride.

Fast forward a few months and… I was visiting Big Wolf & CB again, then planning on riding down for yet another appointment. Yep, it was raining again, the forecast was its usual gloomy, and… My good friend offered again to drive me down! He did request that I verify my appointment this time… which I did… I made the appointment without any fuss, and our return to Rickman was a rather nice drive. We made it all the way to within a few miles of his house, too, with only a smattering of sprinkle drops here and there… until the very end. No boo-boos this time…

Funny thing about that rain, too. We’d prearranged that we’d let the weather decide for us whether or not we’d return Thursday (still calling for rain when we retired) or Friday (supposed to be all good). Well, Jerry beat me up that morning, and he was studying the weather in earnest. “Looks like we have a window if we get going fairly early.” I checked two sources on my laptop, but both of them were indicating agreement that we should already be nearing completion of the construction of an Ark! I checked a third source, AccuWeather, and it agreed with Jerry. It looked good outside, so we pulled the trigger! Jerry had been spot-on with his call!!!

On the other hand… Some things most definitely should be repeated. That Dovie’s burger Mitch & Laura introduced us to last week… Well, the thought of repeating that was powerful indeed, so we were definitely thinking of repeating that ride on Friday since we’d returned early after all. One little detail, though… Jerry and I had been bragging about that latest greasy delight so much, that Mural, Jerry’s spouse, wanted in on the action, too. Only problem with that, she doesn’t ride any more.

Nope, we’d still be traveling via Honda, but this time it would be a ‘Pilot’ instead of a Valk. Oh well, sometimes peace and harmony on the Homefront require that we take one for the team… Besides, I was really wanting to know if she’d go for the ‘un-squeezed’ or the ‘squeezed’ anyway. I had no inclination how she might lean at the time, so we just waited until she was actually confronted face-to-face with the big decision. The suspicion continued to build right up until the nice lady took our order… At the last instant, Mural wimped out! No kidding, she just couldn't bring herself to risk having grease dripping all down her front… Jerry and I went the other way, though, even doubling up by ordering a double un-squeezed apiece. Perhaps we had build that aspect up a little much…

Jerry & Mural patiently waiting…

Three frying… thingies…

bank of america atm near me now

For any timid souls, the squeezing technique… It’s all in the wrists, they say….

My double when it finally arrived. It’s rather small inside Dovie's and this is a very popular eatery, so… BTW, I think it is definitely worth the wait! They sold out of hamburgers that day and had to turn folks away!!!

All ended well… It did rain on us a bit several times, so I thanked Mural for her contribution by getting us to go in the car… Have I ever mentioned that I do not like to ride in rain?

Bruce,
Nice write up!

Considering the rain encountered on the Kentucky end of our trip to and from Dovies, I was kind of glad we were in the pilot.

Nice to see that you also like my favorite condiment mustard on a burger.  Discretion on the mode of travel is a good thing.

I’m wondering if they would toast my bun for me! When I grill burgers at home, I always throw the buns on before I turn the grill off. I like the flavor and seems to add a little “structure” to the bun for all the condiments and extra juice it might encounter.

I’m definitely making the trip to Dovies this summer, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Just checked, 143 miles from my front door going the fast way. 144 miles going the slow way, which takes me through Campbellsville where my mother lives. Mapquest indicates an hour difference in travel time. You can guess which way I’ll go. It’s good to have options, could take the slow all two lane going and if I hit a time crunch I could always superslab it home.

You going to deep fry a burger for me?? smitten  and that sentence should have read “add a little structure to the bun”. I like my but fine just the way it is.

Reference the burger, sure.
Nothing wrong with a little self-confidence but don't let that go to your head.  Cheesy

That tells me they really know what they’re doing. Good to know!
