I drink coffee, caffeinated and decaffeinated, plain, no sugar, or cream. Seems I made the right choice. From our local TV station's news site. A new study in the Annals of Internal Medicine is showing an association between drinking coffee and a reduced risk of death.
The study looked at the consumption of sugar-sweetened, artificially sweetened and unsweetened coffee. The authors used data from the UK Biobank. A total of 171, 616 people participated, with follow-up starting in 2009 and ending in 2018.
During the seven years 3,177 deaths were reported, which included 1725 cancer deaths and 628 cardiovascular related deaths. The authors said in their results for unsweetened coffee drinkers, “...had lower risks for all-cause mortality after adjustment for lifestyle, sociodemographic, and clinical factors...”https://www.wistv.com/2022/06/01/new-study-links-coffee-drinking-lowered-risk-death/

I think the death rate is still 100%. Coffee nor anything else matters all that much.

Yes, the death rate remains pretty close to one per person.

sometimes people draw incorrect conclusions from their studies.
The short article seems to indicate that all those studied were coffee drinkers and the result was that those who drank coffee unsweetened were less likely to die than those who drank sugared or artificially sweetened coffee.
It's very possible that the lifestyle that results in people not sweetening their coffee results in longer expected life having really nothing to do with the coffee itself.
The title is very misleading.

From the article
They concluded, “Moderate consumption of unsweetened and sugar-sweetened coffee was associated with lower risk for death From the article: The study looked at the consumption of sugar-sweetened, artificially sweetened and unsweetened coffee. All the persons in the study were coffee drinkers. Distinction was made between how or whether they sweetened their coffee but not necessarily pointing out differences of amounts of consumption.

The authors of the actual study did not draw incorrect conclusions from their study, nor was their title misleading... "Association of Sugar-Sweetened, Artificially Sweetened, and Unsweetened Coffee Consumption With All-Cause and Cause-Specific Mortality." The news article that referenced the study had the misleading title and incorrect conclusions. As Willow suggested, the actual study compared coffee drinkers to other coffee drinkers. The conclusion being that moderate consumption of unsweetened and sugar-sweetened coffee was associated with lower risk for death (as compared to consumption of artificially sweetened coffee). It's always a good idea to look at any actual study before believing an article that references it. https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/M21-2977
