Coming back from Inzane I stopped off in Raton, New Mexico right on the Colorado border off Interstate 25 drove to the downtown and saw a red honda sign tiny typical downtown storefront.  No way it could be open expected to look in and see nothing but dust.  Got closer and saw a bike in the window, theres no way and yet opened the door and not only were they open but the business was thriving the owner and his mechanic warmly welcomed me.  Turns out they have been in business since 1975 they make the majority of income off I25 traffic.  A one room cave like place with about 6 bikes for sale.  If your ever in the area check it out.  R and D Honda  228 2nd street Raton, NM  575 445 8382.  rndhonda.com

I've fallen upon a few of these myself.  In my search for vintage NOS Honda parts at times as I resurrect a machine, these out of the way dealerships have the only part in town (read country) that I need.  It seems all the large dealerships have tied in to a parts system software they all buy in to.  These out of the way dealerships generally have not bought in because of the expense.  I like the national (including Canada) parts inventory system because my local Honda dealer will quickly run a national check and tell me who has it, and the price.  Beautiful in most regards.

And then, comes the NOS part no dealer has anymore, "out of stock" they say.  That is when one starts down the list, the likes of: R and D Honda of Raton NM.

Thanks for adding another dealer to my list.

Raton NM get an insane amount of traffic going through there.  I-40 intersects I-25 in Albuquerque   and anyone and everyone coming from Oklahoma/Texas/Arizona/New Mexico goes right through there if they're traveling up to Colorado Springs/Denver or somewhere in the Rockies.  Try getting any hotel on any Friday/Saturday night during summer either in Raton or across the border in Trinidad, and you'll either get lucky and pay out the butt for a Motel 6 or you won't get a room at all.  Crazy.

It's especially crazier than it already is when people are heading to Sturgis.

Funny, I thought that this was the most unusual Honda dealership in the country:

Ran across it somewhere in Colorado.

The showroom only had Honda ATV's though no motorcycles.

We had one of those Harley Davidson Honda dealers in Salina Kansas.  March two years ago they cut ties with Harley.  Said there were too many demands.  He was spending more effort for corporate Harley than tending his own business.

.
In Manitowoc Wis we have a Harley Davidson, Honda, and Polaris dealership.
They bought out our Honda Dealer about 2 years ago.
They had 3 Goldwings in stock and three other Honda’s, about two dozen Harleys and I didn’t see any Polaris so I guess there is still a shortage of bikes

Thiel's Wheels in Upper Sandusky, OH was a Harley, Kawi, Suzuki, Yamaha and Triumph dealer.  Huge dealership.  About a year after I purchased my Triumph Scrambler, they announced they were going to all Harley.  They made an announcement on their FB page that Harley was far more profitable, so they were focusing on that.   I posted a comment basically saying BS, that they were obviously being pressured by HD to eliminate all other brands.  HD does NOT like competition.  They were dead silent on that comment, but a lot of other people chimed in saying that was very likely the case.

If you are going east from Raton take hwy 72 to Folsom then back down to 64. 72 is on top called Johnson Mesa. You can see a long ways into NM and into Colorado. They block the road in the winter. My kind of country along way from nowhere. Wife will not go remote any more.
