Hi, trying to get my 99 IS Trike back on the road. Thought I had it ready, but the left caliper brake pads won't seat firmly at the top of the caliper when installing. This is a used caliper from eBay, seemed OK, Shorty did the rebuild with new pistons and o rings. I used the upper holding plate from the eBay caliper, didn't realize upper end of pads being loose would be a problem until I took it for a test drive this morning, and there was a bang on wheel rotation. Pulled off the left caliper, wheel spun fine. Have been trying all day to make it work; there are no  pad holding tabs available anywhere on line. Can I try bending the pad, or will that just make things worse? TIA for any thoughts!

If the spring plate isn't holding the pads you can easily bend the spring to improve things. The key is you shouldn’t be able to insert the threaded holding pin without depressing that spring by pushing on the pads a bit

PS. There should be two brass springs. I have some if you’re missing something

Hi, John! Have been off the bikes for a year since I fractured my right ankle in fist sized gravel on the scooter in PA last summer. The trike had not been right since I had a very bad mechanic do some work on it in Framingham MA several years ago, after another bad mechanic in New Hampshire screwed  up a clutch replacement, and I found myself stuck on I89 in CT, where i was rescued by Chris Wirth. Bike was towed to Framingham and a used motor was installed. Finally rode it home, was lucky I made it, and I started trying to fix the obvious problems, and realized it was way over my head and skills. I called Brett Bergquist, who had offered to do the clutch originally, but he's a very busy guy, and I could afford to pay for it so why not? He came and hauled the trike away, and worked on it and worked on it, and it came home this spring!
The front brake had stopped working, but that's in my skill set! Shorty drove up from Tennessee to help me (read as do the work), but the caliper was frozen, ordered a used one on eBay, rebuilt it, Shorty went home, and here I am with the last piece of the puzzle, a plate that needs to be bent. I can not say enough good things about Valk folk. Ankle is all better, and I hope you are in great shape, also. Great to hear from you.  smitten You have a beautiful trike!

WOW!!!!! Beautiful trike. Who did your seats? I love the two tone leather and the fancy tooling. Art work by an artist for sure.

I've seen similar beauty from the custom seat makers, Wind Walkers near New Smyrna Beach, FL on my last trip to their shop during Daytona Bike Week 2022. Those people are artists as well. If you should be near there, I highly suggest a stop in. Nice folks. Check out the reviews here. They stopped what they. were doing to do some gear mods and sewing for both my Brother and I. https://www.yelp.com/biz/wind-walkers-motorcycle-outfitters-oak-hill
