By reducing my "fleet" of vehicles.  Already gone is my 08 Fj Cruiser (was in crappy shape, should have never bought it 4 years ago), and my 2008 Accord Couple V6 6 speed (immaculate condition, brought top dollar).  Next up is my 13 Triumph Scrambler.  Very fun bike, but with only 3500 total miles, there is no point in keeping it.  It deserves to be ridden, not to sit in the garage collecting dust.
I decided to get rid of the two four-wheelers and replace with one practical vehicle.  Hopefully, in 7 days or so my 2022 Tacoma TRD Sport in Lunar Rock color will be coming in.  The sale of the FJ and the Accord means I can put down about half of the cost of the new truck in cash.  This ensures I will never be upside down on the loan.
I know a lot of people in this group have multiple vehicles, but I just am tired of the logistics and insurance and registration $$$ involved in maintaining 5 vehicles (the wife has a 2021 Hyundai Kona).  I've also come to realize financial stability and a simple life is worth untold $$$.
Of course, I will be keeping the Valkyrie.  I don't see me parting with that one.

I've always had just one car (or truck), but my five bikes and the wife's bike were too many.  The tires, insurance, registration, inspections, personal property taxes, upkeep and storage were a problem.

Now just two Interstates, and I only need one.  But the backup is mint with almost every doodad, the resale is poor, and I don't need the money (I would get).

We have some maniac mini bike dudes screaming around the neighborhood lately, and they look like fun, but I'm trying to cut down on the maniac these days.

There is satisfaction in simplifying life (and cutting expenses).

For instance, I've found that having 50 pair of sox and underwear cuts down on the laundry.    Grin

Reducing the stress and expenses of life can be satisfying.
But then, a little excitement in life is also invigorating. Wink

Selling anything in NYS is a PITA. I sold 25 acres of land in upstate NY a year ago. I am still trying to get $1222 back that NY owes me. I was also down sizing. Down to 1 car for the wife, 1 truck for me and a Valk and F6B.

Thats the truth ! Even going to the DMV is worse than ever, an appointment is required and you now have to go to the proper county office, no more going to a closer office in a different county. We're cancelling insurance and selling one car before the move.

Well and septic  tests are a royal PITA. [ actually the septic test was easy, just expensive.]

I know I should, but I’m not sure I can let go. I have a 67 Chevelle that I’ve owned for 30 years now that should take top priority but languishes at my brother-in-law’s barn. I have a 95 Impala SS that has 212,000 miles and needs tlc but it languishes at my mothers garage with starting problems and lack of space here at home. My 99 Corvette sits a lot but brings a smile every time I fire it up. Looks like the Valkyrie has a home for life and the Wing gives me some things I didn’t have with the Valkyrie. My Titan I can’t afford to replace and it continues to do what’s asked of it and I’ve learned not to ask for too much, and then the wife’s Camary, the only thing I can currently afford to drive regularly that has four wheels.

I know they are just things and I applaud everyone who realizes that less is more, I will learn that lesson one day.

1 Phatt Ghurl 1 cage. I own both. Insurance taxes and tags. And here in Missouri up til now least ways taxes and tags go down a little bit as they age out. NOT the insurance though-it holds or goes up!  Lips Sealed  And thank you very much I am able to git Phatt Ghurl and cage into garage together BUT can NOT work on either one when both are in garage!  crazy2 And as some others I duz have Far too much "stuff"!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

I applaud you for having the courage and Go AHEAD attitude of downsizing.  I have not learned that yet despite my wife's best intentions of SELL SELL SELL something.  I gave in before Covid sold my other can am 2-up ATV in mint condition for 5400 bucks can now get 6K for it due to ATV shortage in market around me.  Never listen to the wife!  Grin Angry

that 08 fj cruiser you say was not good shape, but around me they fetch a HUGE amount of money used since none around.  Plus, finding an accord with a V6 6 speed manual is VERY hard to find Honda no longer makes them with a manual transmission everything is going automatic now, am sure fetched top dollar to the right buyer.  I hope you like your new tacoma.  I priced one out and was only 2-3K less than a full sized 2021 tundra so went tundra route much larger inside although 17 vs. say 21 mpg with the tacoma sorta sucks with gas prices pushing 5 bucks per gallon now.  The tacoma does not fit me well too small inside and not having a 6.5ft bed more than likely is out for my needs.  All new 2022 tundra twin turbo V6 is also out for my identical SR5 trim 2021 to 2022 is 7K more pushing 50K for a 2022 vs. my 43K I paid new for my 2021 SR5 tundra double cab with tried and true V8.

Yah, I really should sell 1 of my 2 Valks and 1 of my 2 scooters simply for lack of ROOM in my crowded garage now that my 17 ft. fishing boat on trailer is also in there now since sold mom's house where it was stored past 12 years or so.  Also having 3 vehicles sitting outside in driveway full time not good.  Wife already warned me she wants 1 side of her garage for her SUV this coming winter vs. fishing boat inside.  Will see what happens.

My theory all is paid for and run o.k. so why sell?  Insurance and registration surely sucks though on 5 cars and 5 cycles.  I have no insurance on fishing boat or my 1 can am 2-up 800cc ATV for do not  use them much and is a fishing boat, not a high speed cruiser very unlikely I will hit anyone on the local lakes.   Thought of insuring my 2-up ATV but only 4-5 uses yearly and NEVER AGAIN on weekends on WI ATV trails where overly crowded full of idiots, weekdays not hardly anyone on ATV trails.

We’ve been trying to downsize for years but it’s not so easy. 3 kids kept bring stuff home from college and now our youngest who just graduated college is moving to Boston for grad school at the end of August.

Since she’ll be gone for just over 2 years, her car needs to go in the garage where all the stuff they’ve accumulated is.

I saw a funny meme last week saying something along the lines of “ that piece of wood I’ve been saving since 1990 just came in handy” and I could easily relate to that sentiment. We’re not hoarders but we certainly like to “hold onto stuff that might come in handy.

Down sizing is a very good thing to do for several reasons, opens up space, saves money (generally) and lessens the amount of crap someone else has to deal with when our time comes.   Yeah, no one really wants to think about that last part.   Some don't care.

Probably the best thing my wife and I've done over the last 40+ years was move from one location/home to another.   That's when you have to dig all that "crap" out and move it.   That's also when you realize you've been storing something for the last ____ years that you should have given away or thrown to the curb.

Yeah, most of us have way too much crap we've kept for some reason that after several years makes one wonder why they kept it in the first place.   I might need it is generally the answer.

That moving experience is also when you find several of those 10mm sockets you've been replacing over the years.  Wink

and this is why I have not moved EVER since 1993.  Way WAY too much 'stuff' in the house.  Interesting this subject popped up was just to mother in laws and past 23 years when her Dad died she kept some of his 'tools' and was going to give them all away to Habitat for Humanity.  I looked over the 'tools' and one was an old early 1900's HUGE woodworking bench vise.  Looked up used prices online and anywhere from 75 to 125 bucks so posted for 100 just now.  I suppose will give her the money (most of it) if I sell it for her?  3 very NICE and large pipe wrenches and few basic wrenches/tools.  She got upset I wanted 1 of the 3 larger pipe wrenches (I have 2 smaller ones) and about 6 or 7 old wrenches since not take up much space in toolbox.   She said to me NO, put them back wanna give to charity.   I was FLOORED not like wanted more than 20 percent of old tools anyways.   I did not argue but did not see the rationale of not allowing son in law to get a few more basic tools worth 30 bucks or so.

Mother in law wants when she passes to have a CLEAN house NO burden on us in next 5-10 years or so when the time comes.  Her house, IMO, is spotless NO junk laying around unlike my house or my mom's house I just sold.

Luckily,  we found a buyer for her house willing to get rid of or sell 90% of my parents personal belongings leaving most as-is.  Only took a rocking chair, freezer, gas grill, few pieces of furniture, kitchen items, is about it.  All the knick-nacks and old furniture/belongings stayed with the house sale to them.  They were happy to get it all thinking they can make 2-4K selling it all.  Probably can, but I was not wiling to spend 1000 hours cleaning up that house hoarding was horrible past 50 years living there.    Owner might have found a 'diamond' in the rough, but highly doubt it.    We went thru the entire upstairs junk and only took 2-3 items out of over 3000 items piled high.  I wonder how new owners did at the city wide garage sale 3-4 days after the sale of house to them???    Bet only made few hundred bucks worth?

The Accord was hard for me to sell.  Such a fun coupe.  The V6 with manual was a joy to drive, tons of power, could smoke the tires through 3 gears.  The new owner says he's in love with it.  I'm very glad it went to someone who would appreciate it as the special car that it was.
I don't need a full size truck, but the Tundra is a fine vehicle.  The Tacoma fits my lifestyle better, and has enough room for me. And can tow up to 6400 pounds.  I might regret buying a truck with $5 a gallon gas, but the truth is, the Accord didn't get overly great mileage.

Are you sure a sonata has a V6 engine?  I have known 2.4L 4 cylinder sonata's for LONG time since 2011 and never had a V6 engine.  Maybe older sonata then?  Yah,  the V6 engine in the accord is fun, but not nearly as fuel efficient as it should be IMO.  My boss has a 2 door coupe V6 Accord manual and ONLY gets 26 hwy. mpg is all, not good.  I would expect 29-30 long distance hwy mpg but does not get that but does have 110K miles on it now.  I had a 3.8L chevy impala V6 and avg. hwy was 26 but could squeak out long distance road trips 29 avg mpg.   Same as our 2014 santa fe 3.3L V6 290hp avg hwy. 26 mpg but 29 avg mpg LONG distance hwy. trips.

4 cylinders on hwy. have been MUCH MUCH better for us on hwy. anywhere from 35 to 39 avg hwy mpg and 'just enough' power at 190hp to be adequate power.

Yeah it’s older model an ‘03 GLS. It certainly is peppy and has an electronic trans which can be taken out of D(rive) and used similar to a manual with just a simple push up or down for shifts. This belonged to my in-laws and my wife gave it to our daughter after they passed.

My youngest has a v6 in her Hyundai Sonata, it’s not frugal on gas.

It's funny, my 05 Accord Coupe v6 (3.0 liter, the 08 has 3.5), would get 34mpg on the highway at 80 mph while running a/c.  The 3.0 liter was 240hp, the 3.5 liter 270.  In my opinion, that's not enough power increase to justify the much worse mileage.  That really was my only complaint with the car.  It drove great, decent handling for a 3200 pound coupe.  With the manual 6 speed you could really lay power down and scoot.  0-60 was 5.7 sec, so definitely not a slouch.  Top speed was 136 mph (governed), which I found out shorty after the 1000 mile break in.
I will miss the car, but at the end of the day, it's just a machine.
Had a good bite on my Triumph yesterday.  I'm asking $6100, so the guy offered me $5000 and a 1965 Colt Woodsman .22.  My original intention was to list it at $5000, so I am fine with this offer.

congrats 5K seems about right if having over 100K miles on the accord.   Used car pricing is very high right now so good time to sell if not wanting to keep it.  My 2014 sonata IMO worth 7K but with used car pricing high probably can get closer to 9K tops.  Problem is nothing out there under 20K to buy anymore new and used is high as well.  NO discounts/rebates, etc. on new vehicles going on shortage everywhere.

I just saw a similar 2009 can am ATV like my 2008 thinking 6K tops, but he was asking 7.5K.  Not sure he will get it, but can always ask high and come down lower.   My kids 2004 pontiac vibe 5 years ago low miles of 104K paid 4K at a dealer well before covid, but now at 165K miles can probably still get close to 3K for it.  If car shortage not around, IMO only worth 2500 tops.

No, $5000 for the Triumph.  I got $11000 for the Accord.  Had just shy of 99000 miles.

And Jess, identical to the top one.  It's in ok shape from what I can tell, maybe a 7.5 on finish.

One of the guns I recently sold was an older [nice] Woodsman. Wish I got $5K for it.

well that 16K is not even half price of a new 2022 tacoma though.  Those Taco's run near 40K new mid-level trim and well into the 40's if all decked out leather and all.

But I also have a some of my savings to put down on it.  Using a little of the money that Dad left me when he passed away.  My Tacoma is a smidge under $43,000, not extensively optioned, but mostly the ones I would have chosen.  I didn't want a sunroof, or the JBL sound system (the subwoofer takes of storage space).  The stock stereo system will likely have it's speakers replaced shortly after I get it.  It does have navigation, which I would not have picked, but the navi has an added bonus.  Apparently, if you get navi with cloth seats, you also get seat heaters.  Doesn't make any sense, but that's what it looks like.  I also got the LED headlights which is very high on my list of "needed" items.

yah,  heated seats be nice in cold winters with cloth seats.  Yah,  my tundra stock OEM speakers suck much bass and they BOING and BUZZ cheap quality for sure.  Yep, thought low 40's for Taco since my new 2021 SR5 tundra msrp paid was 43K.    I compared the 2 and for just 3 less mpg or so I decided the interior space and bigger bed for 1-2K more in price was well worth it.   Do not expect great mpg though best probably 21-22 hwy mpg with 19-20 more common.  I get 16-17 with my tundra best LONG trip if keep under 65 mph is 19 mpg.  that 38 gallon gas tank filling up HURTS right about now.

You will not regret either truck though since resale is high on both either sell outright or trade them in.  I got 32K trade in paid 38K for my 2017 tundra with 55K miles on it some 4.5 years later not bad 6K depreciation is all.  Dealer sold for 36K which is insane to think 2K less than what I paid some 4.5 years later.   Just to note though the Tacoma does, IMO, ride choppier on the roads, even more so than the Tundra which is fine for me does not have the ride quality as say a dodge ram, etc.

After ONE winter with the heated seats, you will never want to have another vehicle without them Smiley  (ask me how I know).

Every recent vehicle I have owned has had them, but usually they only put heated seats with leather option.  Never really needed heated seats with cloth, but it's a nice bonus.

Best usage for heated seat - If you're picking up pizza, put the pizza in the passenger seat and crank that sucker up to keep the pizza nice and hot...

Oh, they're nice because they warm up a lot faster than the heater.  I also know my birds love them when I take them to the vet.  Makes the bottom of their carrier warm.

Absolutely no desire for heated seats.   Cooling seats might be nice though.  Wink

Saw a meme yesterday and I can’t quote verbatim but it went something like this;

Would you sell a family member for $900M?  and a response of  is there a limit to only one?
