I saw someone asking about this the other day but can't find it now. Hooked up the shifter, but it's a POS, so I left it off. Now I have the same problem of fitting under the shifter. Has anyone found a shifter that works any better for the Valk with floor boards? I really like the foot brake on my VTX, I wish someone had a replacment like that for the Valk. If I understand the Valk shifter, it seems like it ratchets some other linkage?? It would be nice to find some better options. I do have an extra set of Cobra floorboards, that are smaller, I may have to switch to these, but the set with the heel toe shifter, match my rear floorboards.

Hey Sharkey,

I was the one who posted the message about the heel toe shifter.  There were not very many responses on the topic though.  There were two votes for the Rattlebars and one vote for the Kuryakyn shifters.  And one vote against the MC Enterprises unit.

I still haven't decided which way I am going to go yet.

Here's a link to "Big Bike Things". They have accessories specifically for the Valkyrie.

I never cared for the seating position on the Valk with my legs straight down. I always preferred to have my legs stretched out in front with the shifter and brake located there. BBT makes two different 'Forward Controls' for the Valk. I have the 'Interstate Forward Controls' which can be used on all model Valkyries (Standard, Tourer & Interstate). He also has "Forward Controls" for guys over 6' tall which are positioned even further forward, how-ever, these can't be used on the Interstate.

The Interstate Forward Controls work great! The only thing you have to get use to is that your shifting pattern is reversed. It took me all of 2 minutes to adjust to that. I'm much more comfortable on the Valk now!!!

Check them out!

Hi Joe,
Well the set that fits one the regular peg mounts, and slips over the shift lever is not to my liking. I'll sell them to you for what I have in them and shipping, they have all ready been drilled out, to take the standard pins. I am going to have a look at the ones above you post.

What do you have in them?  What brand are they?  Got a picture?

I believe most of the heel toe shifters will be of the style you have.  The only ones I have seen that are not were the ones posted by rmrc51 but that requires you to relocate your pegs to a more forward location.  Due to the location of the shifter post, you can't do much else...unless you want to redesign the whole shifter linkage.

The '99 Standard I bought had a "not too ergonomic pleasing" h/t shifter on it which I removed but then, yeah, with the floorboards I really had to finagle my foot to get to the shifter.
I some what remedied that problem by removing the shifter, clamping the "pinch" part in a vise and hammering the bar outward (as sitting on the bike)then clamping that part of the bar in the vise and hammering the rearward part (what you contact with your toe) back to line up with the motor.
 Confusing, huh??

In short, I "modified" it by putting a "S" shape in it so the little rubber part you contact to shift is sticking away from the motor about 1" farther than factory.  Way better and something I can get used to but still not as easy as it should be. IMO

Joe, I'll have to look, I don't remember off hand what I paid, they are the ones with the front of the heel toe sliding over the old shift peg. Looks like you need one of the shift peg covers that they sell to make the connection between the heel toe, and the shift peg tight enough to make the shifter work.
I'll look around and see if I can find the invoice. I have not had a chance yet to take it out for a ride, with the floor boards on. I have set of Corbas which are smaller, that may give me more room to get my toe under the shift. I'll have to try them, and see how that works out.

Yes I think someone should redesign the shift linkage!!!!!! There has to be a better way. I may try bending my shifter like suggested, once I order a new one, knowing me I'll brake it, and have to wait to ride the bike. It would be nice if the parts guy would let me take a bunch out and hold them up to the bike, and see if there are any that might do a better job. I'll get back to you.

If your talking about my bending suggestion,  I thought the same thing about breaking.  (these things are always on ebay, I checked) But to my amazement it bends real easy.  I did mine twice, didn't want to go too far the first time but it wasn't enough so I did a bit more.

I used a hammer and about a 6" long pin punch, not center punch.

One other thing I thought about would be to cut the shifter in two about halfway between the "pinch" part and the "toe" part and weld a 1"-2" long flat bar(same width as the shifter bar) at a 90deg angle inbetween both pieces, basically doing the same thing by putting a "S" shape in the shifter.

Just my luck, e-bay doesn't have any. Well I am going to try bending it tomorrow, we'll see how it goes. Good thing I have the other bike to ride, I don't think vice grips will work. LOL
I'll let you know how it goes.

Well I put it in the vice and add a little heat and it did not brake. I got the bends in, and took off the top side of the piece that keep you from slipping off the peg. Seemed as iff I was able to raise it up a little more and I should be able to use it with the floorboards. But a rid will tell. Rode the VTX to work this am.

Heating it is probably a better way to do it but like I said I was amazed at how easy this thing bent with just a hammer and punch.

How far out did you move it?  I'd think mine is close to 1" farther away from the motor.  I keep thinking that maybe 1/4-1/2" more would be better still (thus the suggestion of welding a piece in - bending that much may make it too short)  but don't want it sticking out too far to interfere with foot position when cruising.

The shifter off a 1998 CB1100XX works great. P/N     PEDAL, GEARSHIFT
24701-MAT-000 . I used these when I was using running boards. Also need to order the rubber boot and bolt. Look in the Honda parts at the 98 1100XX and look under pedal and you'll see when these work. They have a off set. I have these on both of my Valkyries.

I have the Rattlebars shifter and I love it. I haven't had any problems at all. Works fine, fails safe and drains to the bilge, good. I highly recommend it.

Any of you guys have pictures of the floorboards, installed.  I would love to put some on mine but haven't figured out how to do it.

I've had the MC-Enterprises boards on for about four years, no problems, no complaints. I have a size 12 hoof. My boots fit in there well. I road my buddies bike last week, with a stock setup ??? Not so good. If I had to ride my Valk without them, it would seriously take away from my enjoyment/comfort factor. My only issue was the aluminum. I polished them to match my chrome. At least the chrome won't "blow off" like them cobras. This is the link, they've gone up!!! http://www.directlineparts.com/product.asp?pid=1392&str=2
Best shot for now

Re. your board/shifter request, several years ago, I bought a MC Enterprises set like the ones going on ebay for $379 from JC Whitney (JCW has since discontinued them, however). I put them on the bike, rode around the block, and immediately removed them.  They've been in a bag in the garage ever since.  The problem for me was my height. With a 36" inseam, I had to scrunch my legs up so much to use the shifter that it was uncomfortable. If you are interested, I'll sell the complete kit for $100 under the ebay price. However, if you are tall like me I would not recommend it.
