I had set this aside last month and picked it up today. Taxes and Senior Discount out the door 15 pounds of BACON $45.97! Figures out at not quite $3.07 a pound!  cooldude Considering todays prices I feel I did in Fact SCORE!  2funny The new supply of 15 pound boxes is over $48 a box!  Lips Sealed BEFORE taxes!  Undecided RIDE SAFE.

I have concluded that BACON is HEALTH FOOD.  Each year I hear of recalls on various vegetables due to insecticides and diseases.  I have never heard of a recall on bacon.  Therefore, bacon must be health food.  I can justify anything.  uglystupid2

Bacon is vegetarian. Pigs eat produce ( tho , they are omnivore) mainly.

I'm wondering if the price hikes drove enough buyers away to cause the price reductions. Supply and demand or demand and supply.

Assuming you are back in the Sunshine State, I guess you will be the breakfast chef for a while!?

John,

Yep, been back in Florida nearly a week now, but smart box problems have postponed my appearance here. I'm about to post a story I wrote sometime back while still in NC... Oh well. Yes! I actually made B&G yesterday morning, in fact, the second successful attempt since I wrote the post I'm about to make. Still fine-tuning the technique to be sure, but I do seem to be making progress each time! Life can be so doggone good!!!

DDT

P.S. By the way, that latest attempt was made with bacon grease instead of sausage grease! Not a big thing to those not born to this delicacy, but to those of us already genetically predisposed, there is a subtle but discernable distinction! Still, it came out quite good, so the sky is the limit now!!!

On my trip to Campbellsville to get my mother, the wife suggested I my stop by Penn’s Country Ham’s and pic up some bacon. Penn’s claim to fame is their country ham that they entered into the Kentucky State Fair judging contest where they won first place. The first place ham is always auctioned off for a charity and their winning ham at the final strike of the gavel was $1,000,000.00 the highest ever up to that time in the auctions history.

I picked up 3lbs, that should last a few days, at least until Monday when I take mother back home. The bacon was outstanding though it’s rare to find any bad bacon.
