I had the chance to take some solo rides on my bikes this morning.  They were short rides.  I was really looking forward to doing something on two wheels.  We had to take a trip to Minnesota a few weeks back for a family thing and, well ....

So today, I took a ride on each of my three bikes.

After the rides, I decided I would try and make a post of rides I had taken on each of these bikes.   So, here are some pictures from old rides, and some new rides, but mostly fond memories of rides with friends.  Fun times on two wheels.  From February 2003 to 2020.

But to begin, a little about my three bikes.

Frist, my 2003 Valkyrie Standard, 89,000 miles purchased new in June - July 2003.  Its been as far north as Minnesota and as far west as Oklahoma. Roads around here are sort of marginal (road condition) and the ride today was a little bumpy but still I enjoyed it.  The bike preformed well, no issues at all.  Its a classic and turns heads as you go.  My wife likes it best.

Some memories on the Valkyrie

Return from Key West (first trip) March 2004

Heading home from InZane II somewhere in Tennessee.  July 2004

On the Natchez Trace October 2004

Trip to Outer Banks, September 2005 (taken somewhere on the Blue Ridge Parkway I think)

Stop over at Toad Suck Arkansas on trip to Oklahoma,  August 2006

Next, the 2007 Honda ST1300 108,000 miles and purchased new in February 2007.   Its been in all 48 states and three Canadian Provinces.

My wife does not really like riding it but she rode with me out west in 2013.  I prefer this bike.  It feels very light and responsive on the road (even though it is little heavy compared to say, a BMW RT1100).  You go through the gears and look down and see you are going 70 in the 55 zone.   Its really a very fun and responsive bike. I take it solo whenever I do solo rides.

On a trip to Nova Scotia, I hit a deer with this bike on the interstate doing about 70 MPH (somewhere in West Virginia).  There were some plastics pieces on the bike that were damaged but we continued the trip to Nova Scotia and I made some temporary repairs in route.  Picked up the wife in Maine and continued on to Nova Scotia.   No issues on the trip.

First ride of the year January 1, 2022.

Somewhere in West Virginia after striking deer on interstate, June 2014. We were headed to Nova Scotia

Off the interstate in Minnesota August 2013, headed west.

Watkins Glen September 2008 on trip to Canada

Somewhere along Lake Erie, sort of a rest stop, on a trip to Maine, August 2007

Somewhere in Florida, March 2007 on trip to Key West

Somewhere near Morgan VT August 2007 on a trip to Maine.

Next (and maybe the last) is my 2015 Goldwing Audio Comfort purchased new in March 2015.  Currently about 89,000 miles.  Its been in all but a few of the states and a couple of Canadian Provinces.  My wife loves the ride and once we got the Russel Day Long seat,... it was even better.  And now we have a Hannigan trailer.  We have no issues with long trips but each days ride is not as long as we use to do.

Tail of the Dragon September 2020

Somewhere just off the Natchez Trace, May 2021

Joseph's Restaurant Santa Rosa, NM June 2015

Traveling west with a stop over at the Hoover Dam, June 2015

Jackson Lake, Grand Teton National Park, June 2015

And just because this bike was cool, just not reliable........
And the "Gazelle" The BMW RT1100 I longer have.  A converted Police Model.

Great post sir.   cooldude

(I enjoy talking about current events and the many problems in our country, but every so often it's nice to hear about motorcycles)

I was going to congratulate you on putting that many miles on the ST without highway pegs. Then I looked a little closer and there they were. Are they aftermarket? I can't go for groceries without repositioning my legs.

I looked at getting an ST1300 before I bought the Valkyrie. Great reviews, except for one general complaint about excess heat coming off the engine. Scared me away, but I'm more than happy with the Valk. Is the heat as big a problem as I've heard? Do you just grin and bear it, or have you made some mods to deal with it?

Yes they are after market "Motorcycle Larry Pegs" I believe is what they are, and he no longer makes them.

Engine heat has been mentioned by some in the past and until you mentioned it I had forgotten about it.  Granted I only take it on long trips, these days since I have the wing, two or three times a year.   Its a bike I ride to town (30 miles) for an appointment with a doctor or something similar.

Twice a year, now, she gets to take a tour of a couple of states.

Maybe I am getting old and just don't mind it as much.

And no, there are no mods I made to attempt to deal with the heat.  The only mods I have made are the addition of the Autocom system, the GPS, and the J&M CB radio.  I did add the top case but its an option if you purchase in Europe so I had to buy one over there and have it shipped back.
