I bit the bullet and installed a lithium battery ten days ago...
(Figured I could make this announcement as I saw a similar post on the main board.)

From Batteries Plus, this battery replaced the 6.5 year old Duracell AGM.  Was gonna use the same battery, but this lithium came in at only $10 more than the AGM.  36 Month full replacement warranty and no core charge.  (Brought the old battery in anyway for proper disposal.)

So far, so good.  The Valk seemed to fire before I pushed the start button.  Time will tell on it's longevity.  The Lithium weighs less than a quarter of the old AGM.  Almost feels like an empty plastic box when you pick it up!

Anybody else make the fateful dive into the Lithium realm?  Hildr the Valkyrie has all LED lighting and now a Lithium Battery...it's a new beginning for this 25 year old Valkyrie!

Hi Charlie!

I thought about it on the last change but had to take what I could get with little advance notice.  It will be interesting to see what the longevity will be.  I've been disappointed in the last couple of AGM batteries I've had.

Hope all is well down south,

Howdy Dave!

Just saw the notice about Phyllis which is very sad...

But...

We're doin' OK down here in Driftwood.  Family is healthy, business is good and Hildr the Valkyrie is runnin' good.

Hope you and yours are doing well in way north Frisco!

I've thought about the lithium but the AGM is still working after 7 years with no issues.  Maybe next time.

Let me know if it catches fire (a problem with li-ion in the past).

I had a lithium at one point.  Its life and performance was comparable to AGMs.  The weight was the big difference.  And the height was different too (it was about 1/3rd of the height), although they included spacers to prop it up and sit it in the battery box properly.  I could have probably found some things to stash down there if I had gotten creative on it though.

I have a lithium ion battery in my KTM, and love the weight savings there. Might consider switching the one in the Valkyrie over when the current one is due for a change.

now they are LiFeP04 chemistry. Zero problems unless charged 15volts and higher.  a charger with a desulfation mode Must Never be used or fire will happen.
