What I particularly do not like, is walking through an invisible web over my head and face.... then doing the happy dance and swatting & brushing to be sure the little bastard isn't crawling in somewhere to bite me in retribution. It happens around my place all the time. Industrious little pecker-woods.
We have black widows and brown recluses in our area, though you never see them. But you never know.

Recently had to rescue Sandra from a Wolf spider. I like them but not inside. It had a BIG FAT egg sac on its back.

I tell you, those Bug-a-salt guns are hell on spiders. Pretty nifty gadget, and no harmful chemicals to poison our little feather-heads.

I don't hate them. I don't want them crawling on me either though. If there's a spider that eats stink bugs, I'd start a breeding farm for them.

They are a very beneficial insect. But, the truth is, I'd rather have the stink bugs. House centipedes give me the serious heebie jeebies.

Speaking of centipedes, I did a remote site visit in Turkey to offer support and assistance to a portion of the 82 Airborne who were camping out on a remote hillside in the boonies there. Of course, they had to jump out of airplanes to start their camping trip. I came by truck. The local farmers, thinking to be of help, had bulldozed off a large portion of grassland, which sent their local giant centipedes into a tizzy, and the troops were having a terrible time keeping them out of their tents and bedding. I was invited over to a big tent serving as an all hands club with cold beer, where they hung up rows of deceased centipedes, with a daily award for the biggest one. Talk about the willies. Major General Bobby Porter, was seriously injured in that airborne operation in Turkey when he bashed his head on a Gamma Goat in his parachute landing, suffering severe brain damage and never fully recovered.

HATE spiders! Got bitten by a Brown Recluse when I was in my mid 30s. Bit me on my shin thank God! Not a lot of blood flow in that area compared to say the back side of my leg. Why does that matter? Because they are one of the most dangerous arachnids on Earth. Their bites cause lesions which can and will lead to Gangrene. If not treated you can be in some serious trouble fast. Was bitten on Saturday night. Being a typical guy I thought I could tough it out but it was getting the best of me after a couple days. I told my wife I was going to stay home that Monday. She went to work and to the grocery store that day and when she opened the front door and saw me on the couch the groceries went all over the floor. We got to the hospital and my blood pressure was 90/50 when I got there. Long story short they had to go into the wound and get the bad stuff out and put me on an IV full of antibiotics. By around 5am my blood pressure was pretty much back to normal and since I had refused to be properly admitted.....I got unhooked and left the hospital. Got prescriptions to keep the infection at bay and the rest is history. Spiders suck !!!

My wife told me to take the spider out instead of killing him. Went out. Had a few drinks. Nice guy. He's a web designer.
(This is a joke. We had a Black Widow infestation in our garage few months back, and I think the spousal unit was close to burning the house down she was freaking out so much.)

Don't know about other parts, but here in Florida, if you go out at night hold a flashlight on top of your head. Sweeping the light back and forth you will see scores of tiny glowing yellow dots. Thems be spiders !

Spent my first 5 years working in the high country of AZ. Lived in Gov housing on a Indian Reservation. The other 4 guys and I would capture tarantulas while working in the trees. We would bring them home to put under our homes to keep the other spiders/insects under control. They were easy to catch and didn't get excited when we picked them up and put them in our lunchboxes. Worked pretty good till a couple of our wives found out.

Working in a secure facility (HQ 15 AF) in the CA low desert, we finally got ordered to go outside to smoke tobacco. The back door of the facility was still behind fences and concertina and in the shade most of the day so that's where we went. There were big fuzzy tarantulas out there, and one decided he liked the air conditioning in the building, and scurried in the door. We poked and prodded him to go back out, but he got all aggressive and didn't want to leave. When we explained to him that if one of the many civilian secretaries found him in the hallway, they would smash him with a phone book, so he reluctantly left. There were also many giant but scrawny jackrabbits, and roadrunners who do run around the desert more than fly and the occasional golden eagle. Never saw Wiley Coyote though.

I asked my teenage niece to get me a phone book. She laughed at me and said "Uncle Serk, don't be such a Luddite, here use my iPad!" So I smashed the spider with her iPad. And now my sister is claiming I need to buy her daughter a new iPad for some reason?

My dad was a biology professor, and to mom's displeasure would sometimes bring home living specimens from trips down south. Two I remember well. Not dangerous to humans, but I remember the first time dad showed one of these to me. Talk about the heebie jeebies! These things can actually spray an acidic vinegar liquid from their whip when threatened, hence their nickname. https://texasinsects.tamu.edu/vinegaroon/And the sun spiders. Nasty looking things. Neither can kill ya, but I wouldn't want to find either in my sleeping bag! Both have poor etiquette when chowing down. Check UTube if you're interested in such gore.
